Eminem apologises from beyond the grave to daughter Hailie and other kids over 2007 overdose in emotional new song

Eminem apologises from beyond the grave to daughter Hailie and other kids over 2007 overdose in emotional new song

Thankfully the actual Eminem is still alive and well

The last song on Eminem's new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), features him seemingly rapping from beyond the grave in an alternate world where he died.

This latest album seems to have been about putting the abrasive character of Slim Shady to rest, but there's plenty of words for others beyond his alter ego in there.

If you're doing The Death of Slim Shady right then you're listening to the tracks in sequence, and this tune where Eminem is rapping from beyond the grave comes right at the very end.

In a previous song in the album, 'Temporary', the rapper tells his daughter it'll be alright after he dies and dedicates the song to her 'for when that day comes'.

It's made listeners plenty emotional, and if they listened to the tracks in order as the rapper told them to it wouldn't be long before they got to the end of The Death of Slim Shady.

The album ends with the track 'Somebody Save Me', where Eminem appears to sing from beyond the grave as though he'd died as he sings 'like I'm stuck inside an alternate reality'.

The song seems to be set in a world where Eminem had not recovered from a dangerous overdose in 2007, as he laments all the things he missed out on by not being around.

For context, in December 2007 Eminem collapsed in his bathroom, telling Rolling Stone that he remembered hitting the bathroom floor and then waking up in the hospital where doctors told him he'd been about 'two hours from dying'.

He credited Elton John for helping him with his recovery, saying that the iconic singer was like a 'sponsor' for him and would call about once a week to check up.

It was a very close shave for Eminem, and 'Somebody Save Me' features plenty of dedications to his family for the things he wouldn't have been around for.

To his daughter Hailie he rapped: "Hailie, I'm so sorry, I know I wasn't there for your first guitar recital.

"Didn't walk you down the aisle, missed the birth of your first child.

"Your first podcast, looking down, sweetie, I'm so proud of how you turned out.

"Sorry that I chose drugs and put them above you, sorry that I didn't love you enough to give them up.

"How the f**k do I not love you more than a pill?"

There were also messages for Alaina, his sister's daughter who he legally adopted, his wife's son Stevie who he also adopted and his half-brother Nathan.

He told Alaina 'sorry that you had to hear me fall in the bathroom', said to Stevie 'I missed you grow up and didn't get to be the dad I wanted to be to you', while he told his brother 'sorry I left you'.

Thankfully, he did survive that overdose in 2007 and was able to be around for all of that.

Damn, things got heavy there.
