Brits are leaving gigs early and missing the encore for a surprising reason

You won't believe why

It's been a huge summer for music, from Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour to the long-awaited Oasis reunion.

But that hasn't stopped music lovers from leaving gigs early and missing the encore - and you won't believe the reason why.

According to new research commissioned from Holiday Inn Express by IHG, the younger generation are most likely to make a quiet exit before the last chorus kicks in.

In fact, one in four gig-goers skip the final song in order to get a solid eight hours sleep, with 39% of Gen-Zs prioritising self-care and feeling fresh the next day.

Millennials on the other hand will risk a sore head for extra hours on the dance floor.

Wellness expert, expert and TedX speaker Adrienne Adhami explains: "It’s understandable that Gen-Z and millennials take a different approach to concerts and the morning after. Gen-Z came to party with a wellness playbook in hand.

"They’ve grown up in a world that talks about burnout, boundaries and balance. Meanwhile, millennials were the generation that coined 'work hard, play hard', so it makes sense that Gen-Z pace themselves and prioritise feeling good the next day, while millennials are going all in, even if it costs them the morning after. It’s not about which one is better, it’s just different priorities."

To be honest, we get it, and that's where hotel brand Holiday Inn Express comes in with the recent launch of their limited edition Fresh or Fried gig care packages - designed to help you stay for the encore or unwind when you get back to the hotel.

  • Fresh: For the concertgoer who prioritises wellness and self-care, is up early, ready to seize the day and maybe squeeze in a morning run before check out. Think earplugs, mouth tape, and essential oils for a good night’s sleep.
  • Fried: You gave it your all last night and now it's time to recharge. We're talking under-eye masks, hydration sachets, caffeinated gum, and even a reusable tumbler.

So, which one are you?

Will Best and AJ Odudu are the faces of the campaign and have very different ideas of what makes a good night out. For instance, Best is firmly Team Fresh.

"I go to lots of gigs, but I still have to get up early for breakfast radio, so while I have fun and definitely indulge in some questionable dad dancing, I still like to wind down properly afterwards."

Meanwhile, AJ Odudu is proudly the last to leave the dance floor, so will be in need of the Fried package. "I’m a night owl and I always get a second wind, especially in a concert crowd," she said. "I definitely get that from my mum!"
