People are impressed at the way Brendan B. Brown, lead singer of the band Wheatus, sung 'Teenage Dirtbag' during a live performance.

If you don't know how the song goes, at least in the chorus, I simply don't believe you as it's pretty much impossible to comprehend.

If I write the words 'I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby' then you know exactly how it goes in the song with the two main words stretched out as long as they can go.

While plenty of people have enjoyed the song and some have made an undignified spectacle of themselves attempting to tackle it in karaoke there really is nobody better than the original singer to handle the lyrics.

However, there's one bit of the tune people are pretty stunned Brown handles himself and that's a moment later on in the song which doesn't sound like him at all.

It's the bit where the 'female' voice comes over and starts singing about having tickets to Iron Maiden (baby) that really sticks out from the rest of the lyrics.

You might have thought that Brown drafted in a woman to sing that part but the truth is he did it all himself and people who've watched him transform his voice during a live show have been amazed at how he did it.

While people have said it 'seems obvious NOW' that it was Brown all along, they've been stunned that they never put it together that he's the one singing all the way through.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2019, Brown explained why he wanted to sing it all himself.

He said: "The boyfriend character was based on a nameless conglomeration of the many d**chebag bullies who wanted to show you their father’s gun.

"I sang both the male and female parts because, when I was getting beat up, a lot of bullies were homophobic. I wanted to irritate them by putting on a female voice."

Many who watch the performance live say it's the 'best part' of the song, while being stunned at how he manages to switch his voice so easily.

Others fans said they 'thought a girl was the lead singer this whole time' and were astonished to be proven wrong.

People praised Brown for having 'such a unique and solid voice' and the man himself says he's 'proud' whenever he hears it over the radio.

He called it a 'weaponised piece of pop culture' and when Wheatus plays 'Teenage Dirtbag' the fans 'sing so loud we can't hear ourselves'.

That's got to be a ringing endorsement.
