The science-fiction thriller, Spiderhead, has just been released on Netflix and people are already wondering whether there is going to be a sequel.
Spiderhead had an a-list team creating it. It was directed by Top Gun: Maverick director, Joseph Kosinski, the script was written by the writers of both Deadpool films, and the cast featured some big names, like Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Tess Haubrich.
The film takes place in a futuristic, state-of-the art-prison in which the inmates are allowed to roam freely and have reduced sentences in exchange for participating in a drug trial.

In the psychological thriller, Hemsworth, who many know and love as Marvel hero Thor, gets the chance to play the villain.
The Australian plays the mad scientist who administers the emotion-altering drugs and desperately presides over the inmates. The Netflix original is based off a dystopian short story that featured in The New Yorker and it explores the irony of free-will that has constraints.

The dystopian thriller has split opinions amongst critics, however much of the fan response has been positive.
One Twitter user said “A superb cast and curious plot. Watch!”. Another viewer tweeted “Watched Spiderhead on Netflix last night. Didn't know ANYTHING about it, hadn't heard about it at all. So all I'm going to say is, you should definitely watch it”.
So, Will There Be A Spiderhead 2?
There are currently no official plans for a sequel to the Kosinksi thriller. Given that the film was based off the short story by George Sanders, it seems unlikely that there will be a second film as Sander’s story does not have a second part.

Maybe even more pertinently, the Spiderhead ending is conclusive and does not really leave any unanswered questions.
That being said, stranger things have happened. If the film continues to perform well, Netflix may produce a second part to the story. Watch this space.
