Titled Spaceman, the upcoming film is based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař.
"An astronaut realises that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth," reads the film's synopsis.
"Desperate to fix things with his wife, he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship."
Sandler plays a man named Jakub, an astronaut adrift in the cosmos.

“I really wanted to have a performance from him that had nothing to do with the Adam Sandler we all know,” director Johan Renck explained to Netflix.
“I don’t think people understand how [although] he may come across as funny and sweet and all that, he’s very intelligent, really smart, profound.”
For most of the film, Netflix say Sandler is alone on-screen.

He is occasionally joined by a mysterious creature, voiced by Okja star Paul Dano.
“Paul was the first thing that came up in thinking about [the creature],” Renck said. “He has this peculiar cadence when he’s speaking, his careful formulation of words, and his very unique voice.”
“Spaceman began as a short story that I wrote in my last year of college,” according to Kalfař, the author of the book the movie is based on.
“Originally, it was just a punch line about an American astronaut who was stranded in orbit when he received a call from his wife asking for a divorce.”

After watching the trailer, viewers can't wait to see how the comedy actor approaches the role.
"Adam Sandler is more multi talented at acting than we give him credit for," one said.
"When Adam does a drama it is a must see. Can’t wait," another added

"I immediately want to watch this. I love Adam Sandler," a third wrote.
"Here’s to Adam getting more awards for dramatic performances," someone else penned.
"This seems promising. Was anyone else afraid after the monologue he'd suddenly go into his trademark Sandler Voice and make funny noises?" another joked.
Spaceman will also star Maestro’s Carey Mulligan as Jakub’s earthbound wife Lenka, Kunal Nayyar as technician Peter, and Isabella Rossellini as Commissioner Tuma, Jakub’s commanding officer.
The film is set for release on 1 March 2024.
