An icy thriller starring Liam Neeson has taken over Netflix since it arrived on the platform, with many hailing it as 'Taken on ice'.
In the 2021 film, a 'big-rig' ice road trucker (played by Neeson) is quite literally on thin ice when he is forced to travel across a frozen lake to deliver vital rescue equipment to miners trapped in a collapsed diamond mine in Canada.
A brief synopsis from Netflix reads: "To save a team of miners trapped underground, a down-on-his-luck ice road trucker joins a mission across treacherous terrain to deliver rescue equipment." You can watch the trailer here:
In The Ice Road, Neeson is joined by The Matrix's Laurence Fishburne and Kill the Irishman's Marcus Thomas as he races against time to help the trapped miners.

Since arriving on Netflix, the film has made its way up the ranks to become the streamer's most viewed movie.
But that hasn't stopped some skeptical social media users from comparing it to another popular Neeson flick.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), one person who'd seen a trailer for the film wrote: "Surely 'Taken on Ice' would have been a much better working title?"
And another said: "I’m watching the next instalment of the Taken series with Liam Neeson: The Ice Road."

Iconic action thriller Taken (2008) saw Neeson star as a retired CIA agent, travelling across Europe to save his estranged daughter and her friend, who has been abducted by human traffickers while on a trip to Paris.
Funnily enough, this isn't the first time an icy thriller from the Irish actor has been compared to the 2008 blockbuster.
Last year, Netflix released 2019's Cold Pursuit - a remake of the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance (Kraftidioten) - onto the platform.

A brief synopsis reads: "In this icy revenge thriller, Nels Coxman (played by Neeson) sets out on a deadly rampage as he tracks down members of a Denver drug cartel who he believes killed his son, Kyle."
Kyle is played by Neeson's real-life son Micheál Richardson and the film also stars Jurassic Park’s Laura Den as Nel’s wife Grace.
Plot sound somewhat familiar? It did to many X users too, who called it 'basically another remake of Taken' and 'Taken in the snow.'
Not that that's a bad thing, of course!

Regardless, the combination of Liam Neeson and dangerous icy conditions seems to be a winner as that too took the top spot on Netflix's most viewed list.
