Tom Hardy’s newest Netflix film Havoc may be number one on the streamer’s platform right now, but fans are being told to go elsewhere for a good watch.
The film, directed by Gareth Evans, stars Hardy as a cop who is dragged into the criminal underworld after a drug deal goes wrong, killing bad guys in more graphic and gruesome ways as he goes.
Havoc is not only the number one film on Netflix’s UK charts, but across the world, and so many fans are clearly loving it enough to tune in - yet not everyone is convinced.
Whilst some fans complained about the CGI and others complained about Tom Hardy’s accent, many are suggesting fans simply save their one hour and 45 minutes and watch a whole other movie altogether.
Havoc is the number one film globally on Netflix (Netflix) Director Evans became well known for The Raid, an Indonesian action thriller in which a group of police officers become trapped in a 30-story safe house belonging to a drug lord.
In addition to this he made a sequel, The Raid 2, which was almost as highly acclaimed as the first.
One fan comment about Havoc on Reddit said: “Some of the action scenes were solid, but made me long to watch The Raid/Raid 2 again and skip the CGI bs.
“Not the worst Netflix movie I've ever seen, but I think the 59 [on Rotten Tomatoes] is a reasonable score for it.”
The Raid films are not just reasonably liked cult films, the pair of movies are considered masterpieces by many film critics and action fans.
Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian gave the film five stars, calling it a masterpiece: “The Raid is completely deranged – and completely superb… This violent, intense and brilliant bulletfest from Indonesia puts western action movies to shame.”
The films were well known for their commitment to visual effects, leading one fan to compare Havoc to this on Twitter.
They said: “In The Raid 2 they figured out how to physically pass a camera from one moving car to another, it involved a guy disguised as a car seat to help sell the illusion.
“In Havoc the big chase scene & several oners are all CGI. Bigger budget but huge creativity downgrade.”
The Raid 2 featured a one-shot action scene in which they passed a camera into the car (Sony) One film critic gave Havoc possibly the most devastating possible comparison, saying: “When The Raid hit, it felt unlike anything else. A blast of violence that rejuvenated action cinema on the world’s stage.
“We’ve seen so much innovation and exciting filmmakers since that going back and redoing it with Hollywood stars simply isn’t enough anymore. Havoc is fine.”
The Raid is available to rent on Apple TV+, The Raid 2 is available to stream on Prime Video.
