Netflix viewers are saying they've developed a new fear thanks to the first episode of a popular series on the streaming platform.

It's a show about how a community reacts to several tragic deaths at a birthday party, and they only take about 20 minutes to get to the 'tragic deaths' part.

The Mexican drama series that begins with a well-off couple throwing their son a birthday party, but a gust of wind blows the bouncy castle away and results in the deaths of three children.

After that everyone starts blaming each other as they try to figure out who's really at fault and work through their grief.

Netflix says it's not based on a true story, though this sort of thing has actually happened in the past.

Apparently the deadly combination of bouncy castles and high winds has resulted in 28 deaths and 479 injuries between 2000 and 2021.

Some viewers of the show - called The Accident - are now terrified that such a thing might happen to them, saying they've got a 'new fear unlocked'.

Someone else said The Accident was 'the saddest show I've ever seen in my life', while a third said it went 'from zero to one million quickly'.

Yup, the first episode is all fun and games until a gust of wind blows away the bouncy castle and then it's very much not fun any more.

At least, that's supposed to be how it goes because plenty of other viewers found the whole thing funnier than The Accident likely intended it to be.

Finding a bouncy castle blowing away to be more comical than the tragedy it was meant to be, other Netflix viewers said they 'just laughed so hard I cried'.

A second said they 'couldn't believe that was the accident they were going with', and another said that despite knowing that thing had actually happened in real life and was tragic, the TV show 'just happens to be hilariously poor quality'.

"The acting is terrible and the drama is increasingly nonsensical. I would recommend it," was one person's review of the show.

The crux of the drama where this tragic accident occurs and three kids die is juxtaposed with the rather comical visual of a guy turning around to see a bouncy castle being blown through the sky thanks to the wind.

Some people just seem unable to take the cause of the drama seriously, while others probably don't want to go near a bouncy castle again.
