Squid Game creator makes admission about future of show following release of season 2

Squid Game creator makes admission about future of show following release of season 2

According to series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, ‘Netflix has a plan’

Squid Game season 2 has been and gone, and now it’s time to think about the future of the series.

There’s nothing quite like binging a show and losing days or weeks of your life to a fantasy world.

But when that world is as action packed and plot-twisty as Squid Game, it’s hard to say goodbye to it.

However, the show’s creator has revealed what’s next to come in the uber scary competition show, and there might just be hope.

The Netflix original TV show set people up for a great time in season 1 as we were introduced to Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae.

The plot follows him as he battles with his gambling woes and bid to make it large via a competition on a secret island where he could win an incredible amount of money.

That way, he can pay off his debts and then be a present father in his daughter’s life.

However, as it turned out, the competition was actually a murder game where all but one of the 456 participants had to die in order for someone to win.

After winning, season 2 picked right back up where it left off, and Gi-hun is ready to get back into the games so that he can take down the people in charge of orchestrating it.

While Squid Game season 3 was teased in a mid-credit scene, the show’s creator confirmed that it won’t be the end.

In fact, there could be spinoffs.

According to reports, season 3 was being filmed concurrently with season 2, so it might be coming sooner rather than later.

While this will conclude the story of Gi-Hun, according to series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, he knows that ‘Netflix has a plan’.

He told The Wrap: “They are not going to throw this idea away.”

While it was supposed to be one season only, he was urged to create more for the show.

Clearly, Netflix must have loved it as much as us lot as there’s three seasons in total for the show.

But while he created it, Netflix owns the rights and can carry on with it in anyway they see fit.

While we might not see Gi-Hun again, the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge has been confirmed for a second season.

“Maybe I’ll be in one of those projects as an advisor or co-creator. Who knows?” Hwang said.

He claimed: “Season 3 is not going to be the end of the ‘Squid Game’ universe.”

There is so much that could be done with the show.

For example, now that we have the groundwork laid and lore behind the games coming in snippets throughout the show, what’s to say there can’t be prequels?

Or even spinoff origin stories regarding our favourite contestants?

While Netflix has yet to dive into its plans for the future, there’s just no telling what more can be done.
