The movie’s popularity has been a bit of a roller coaster for newcomer Beavers, who has revealed that he was working in a shop until fairly recently, and has gone from being unknown to amassing thousands of new fans.
In an interview with GQ, Beavers said: “I went from having, like, 500 followers, to 13,000 in a couple days. The movie’s only been out a couple days. So, it's just like mountains of surprises for me. And then I hear it's the biggest premiere on Hulu and I’m like, ‘dang man. What’s next?’ And then I'm talking to GQ. I worked at TJ Maxx [known as TK Maxx in the UK] not that long ago!”
Beavers admitted that while filming he had no idea if Prey was going to be a hit or a flop, but is blown away by how positively the movie has been received.

He told the publication: “It’s insane. The whole thing has kind of been blowing my mind. You never really know how it's going to be whenever you're making it.
“Because they've worked on so many projects, some of which are good and some of which are bad. But as I watch things come together, and as I watch Taabe come on the big screen… the reception has been so good and so big and so crazy.”
Opening up about his earlier life, Beavers admitted: “It was a difficult time because you're grinding and you're grinding, and I'm working a regular job, and I'm playing music at night and on the weekends. Sometimes it feels like you're spinning your wheels, and you're like, what am I doing here? Am I wasting my life?

“And then all of a sudden you get this multimillion-dollar movie and you're the number two on it.”
If you’re yet to see the film, Prey centres on a young Comanche warrior (played by Amber Midthunder) who, alongside her brother Taabe, protects the tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts and kills humans.
Prey has an impressive 92 percent rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and a not-too-shabby 7.2 on IMDb.
Prey is currently streaming on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
