Ricky Gervais found the perfect way to deal with the paparazzi while out for a jog.
The comedian was pictured stepping out of a party held before Golden Globes in 2016, the fourth one he hosted, for a quick jog dressed in all black and sunglasses.

At first, he gave a little wave and a polite 'hi' to the ranks of paparazzi waiting outside to snap him, and thanked them for telling him he was 'hilarious on Ellen'.
However, things went a bit wrong when one of the photographers was so intent on getting pictures of Gervais that he didn't bother looking where he was going.
See, the problem with walking backwards while pointing a camera at somebody is that you have no idea whether you're about to walk into something or shuffle onto a busy road.

Gervais did try to warn the photographer, holding out his arm and saying 'oh no look be careful, be careful, be careful!' but it didn't stop them from stumbling into something and nearly falling over.
It could have been much worse considering that they were by the roadside and would probably have followed the comedian into traffic, but luckily Gervais had the perfect way to deal with them.

Appearing to take pity on the poor paparazzi for almost walking backwards onto a busy road, Gervais stopped the photographers and waved them over.
He said: "Listen, any soundbite I might have is not worth killing yourself for."
"Listen stand still, stand still, do it. I'm going running but I don't want you to hurt yourselves."
The comedian took a moment to pose for photos and have a joke with the paparazzi before setting off on his jog, warning them not to chase after him in case they fell over again.
His apparent solution, giving them a bit of what they want and then asking them to respect a boundary, looked like it worked on this occasion as Gervais was able to set off on his jog without a crowd of photographers chasing him down.

Then again, the whole 'going for a jog' thing might have been a clever justification for him being able to run away from the paparazzi without too much judgment, though he did step out for the occasion.
Shortly after getting snapped by the paparazzi, Gervais shared a photo of himself dressed in the same outfit and shades joking that it was 'the only photo of me they'll ever need'.
For those hoping the comedian will ever host the Golden Globes again it's going to be disappointing news as he's told them not to invite him back for hosting duties again.
It's probably for the best, considering during his last hosting he managed to insult damn near all of Hollywood, kicking off the awards ceremony with a joke about Jeffrey Epstein.
