The hotly-anticipated return of the singing competition The Masked Singer on ITV has meant that fans are going wild on social media in a bid to discover who is indeed “behind the mask”.
The show sees celebrities dressing up in large, colourful costumes and performing cover songs to a panel of judges who try to work out what their real identity is.
The reality show is based on the South Korean show King of Mask Singer, which has since spread worldwide and has at last reached us.
Who is Rockhopper on The Masked Singer?
Four celebrities have already had their identities revealed on the show, whittling down the contestants left before the winner of The Masked Singer 2021 can be revealed. One of the contestants left is “Rockhopper”, but who could they be?
The part-penguin, all-legs character performed a stellar rendition of “Higher Love” by Kygo Ft. Whitney Houston.
Rockhopper gave a few ambiguous clues as to what their true identity is, including their love of entertaining, connections to the circus as well as their audible American accent.
The character also said they “made headlines by being the first” as well as mentioning the “greatest show”, sparking fan speculation that its Zendaya underneath the Rockhopper facade, as the actor, of course, played a starring role in The Greatest Showman.
Rockhopper also said they were able to jump, which could hint towards Zendaya’s boyfriend and Spider-Man star Tom Holland.
The hidden celebrity also performed Amy Winehouse’s “Love is a Losing Game”, convincing judges that Rockhopper was a professional singer, leading Davina McCall to believe they could be Zara Larsson.
Fans flooded Twitter with their guesses, with one predicting the star could be Britney Spears, while another guessed they could be Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall.
