As of 2022 ‘the king of horror,’ Stephen King has sold over 350 million copies of his 64 novels, 6 non fiction books and over 200 short stories. These monumental figures have led him to accumulate a pretty penny as it’s been revealed that the writer's spooky books have given him a net worth of $500 million.
Born in 1947 Portland, Maine the American writer attended the University of Maine, there he wrote for the college Newspaper and even published his first short story in Startling Mystery Stories before graduating. After University he got his first novel ‘Carrie’ published when he was 26. The novel was a huge success and is still one of his most beloved stories.
King went on to publish some of the most famous horror stories ever such as Salem's Lot (1975), The Shining (1977), Firestarter (1980), Cujo (1981) and IT (1986). As you probably know some of these creepy novels have made it to the big screen, with ‘the Shining’ and ‘It’ both making it to Rotten Tomatoes top 10 scariest movies of all time.

Despite his already vast catalogue and his failing eyesight, the ingenious writer is not showing signs of slowing, as he has churned out a book a year for much of his career. With this in mind, fans can look forward to his new fairytale novel which is coming out on 6th September 2022. The book will be about a 17 year old boy and his journey into a portal to another world (so maybe slightly different to the killer clown in ‘It’ or the mad Psycho seen in ‘the Shining’).
His latest novel to be adapted to the big screen is ‘Firestarter’ , this new film which came out on 15 May 2022, starred Zac Efron. The film tells the story of a girl born with powers to manipulate fire, avoiding a government agency trying to capture and study her.
