Fans of the new psychological drama, The Teacher, recently watched the second episode on Channel 5. While many viewers have been left at the edge of their seat with the show’s twists and turns, others are all saying the same thing about the series.

The four-part drama sees Sheridan Smith playing high school teacher Jenna Garvey who is arrested on suspicion of having sex with one of her students. The boy in question, 15-year-old Kyle Hope, has no memory of the events of the fateful night.

In the most recent episode, Jenna turned to alcohol after she refused to go to trial and then entered a guilty plea, as she believes that Kyle’s accusations must be true.

Jenna is then further accused of sending inappropriate pictures to the boy via an app, before she works out that he isn’t telling the truth.

It wasn’t long before viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the episode, and they all had much the same opinion on the show: that it’s “unrealistic”.

One home-audience member wrote: “Always loved Sheridan Smith but everything about #TheTeacher is so ridiculous. It’s so unrealistic it’s distracting, the main character is a train wreck and the acting is so OTT it’s just generally embarrassing and kinda painful to watch.”

Meanwhile, another tweeted: “So… watched last nights episode of #TheTeacher; and couldn’t get past just how unrealistic it is!! When does she mark?! Who would wear a skirt that short to school?! Why does she think it’s ok to swear in front of kids? I get it’s dramatised.. but come on!!! @channel5_tv”.

A different Twitter user remarked about Jenna’s unrealistic lifestyle outside of the classroom: “In reality, she would be lesson planning and marking every night, not going out drinking!  #theteacher”.

“As an English teacher, in her 30s, who lives alone, I would like to clarify this is NOT how we spend our free time,” said @RawlinsMiss, who works as a teacher in a secondary school.

“See the cat for further details,” she continued, capturing Jenna smoking and drinking on-screen in a video, while her cat hilariously stares disapprovingly.

Another viewer mocked the show, writing: “I think they should make a realistic version of #TheTeacher where everyone just stays up marking until midnight. Occasionally a cat could come and sit on said marking.”
