Police officer causes huge debate over how much over the speed limit they’d let you go before pulling over

A police officer has lifted the lid on what type of threshold she allows for drivers who are zooming over the speed limit.

Tara Miller, who had a Coventry Police Department uniform on, said in a recent video on her TikTok page (@tara.miller826) that different police officers have different rules when it comes to speeding.

In the viral clip, the US-based cop replied to a comment asking how much she would 'typically let them go before you would pull them over'.

She claimed police 'have discretion' when it comes to how much leeway they give to drivers.

"I know plenty of officers that will literally pull you over - if the speed limit is 25 - they will pull you over for going 27," Miller said.

"That’s personally not me, but technically that is speeding, so if the speed limit is 25 and you’re going 27, technically you are speeding."

Instead, Miller told her 71,900 followers that she likes to 'give people a grace period'.

"So, I know a lot of the officers that do the five miles over, like if it’s 25 and you’re going 30," she explained.

"Personally, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble for saying this online, but I’m going to say it anyway, I do 10.

"So if the speed limit is 25, and you’re going up to 35, I kind of give you that wiggle room."

Although the content creator insisted that for 'anything over 35, I’ll pull you over'.

She then joked: "My captain watches these videos so please don’t get mad at me, I’m just being honest.

"So, at the end of the day, every police officer has their own discretion of what they’re going to stop you for and what they don’t stop for.

"Technically the speed limit is 25 mph, anything over that is considered speeding, so just be cautious, be mindful of your speeds when you’re driving around because, as I said, every police officer is different."

Over in the comments, some viewers agreed with her, as one person wrote: "Getting pulled over for two mph over the speed limit is diabolical."

A second added: "Two miles over is nuts! Not every car shows EXACT speed."

Someone else suggested: "Why don't y'all pull folks over who are doing under the limit? Those are the real criminals."

Others, meanwhile, argued: "35 in a 25 is way different than 75 in a 65."

Another penned: "Your very cool single digits is ok but double digits ticket."
