A woman's birthday celebrations were cut short after the restaurant slapped her with a ‘ridiculous’ hidden fee.
US-based Gigi (@vivala_blondiiie) has taken to TikTok to complain about how her recent birthday meal with her mates did not go to plan.
It all started when two of her friends took her out for brunch when, at the end of the meal, a waitress asked Gigi if she would like her cake to be cut.

The birthday girl, of course, agreed to cut the cake she brought with her, as the waitress then took the dessert into the kitchen to slice it up for everyone to enjoy.
While the group happily tucked in to their dessert, things took a turn when they got the bill.
Gigi was shocked to discover that the restaurant had added a hidden charge, to which she has 'never heard of such a thing'.

Speaking about the waitress in her recent video, Gigi said: "I thought she was just doing something nice for us.
"But the servers kept insisting to bring the cake to the kitchen and cutting it, which was not our plan."
Gigi - who used to work in the industry - was shocked to discover that the eatery had added a 'cake cutting' fee to the final bill.

"I don't mind I got charged, I was just shocked because it was a surprise," she said.
"We never asked them to serve me the cake I brought.
"Just like they never told me it was a charge."
Viewers were divided in the comments as one person wrote: "I would have asked for a manager - they can't charge extra fees without letting you know."

While someone else said that the restaurant 'can't charge for a cake they didn't sell'.
Although, another user claimed: "If you're there an extra 45 minutes for the cake you are occupying a table and not racking up any more money on your bill.
"The server then gets tipped less than they normally would for a table staying that long."
A fourth person added: "Totally a thing. Because then they bring plates and forks, which they then have to wash.

"But it was wrong that you weren’t told of a fee."
Meanwhile, a fifth user suggested: "Easy fix: don't ever go back. If enough people stop going, the restaurant fails. $25 cutting fee is crazy."
Another reply read: "What's crazy to me is that so many people think bringing their own food into a restaurant is okay."
Responding to the comment, Gigi said: "It was a gift. And the server started insisting on everything else. Sheesh ppl."
In the UK, cake cutting fees are not common, whereas in the US, you will see it in a lot of restaurants.
