Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson achieved a relationship milestone

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary after sharing a sweet photo together on social media.

The famous couple, both aged 66, first met on the set of ABC sitcom Bosom Buddies in 1981.

Because Hanks was married to Samantha Lewes at the time, the pair were just friends at first, before going public with their relationship in 1986.

Just two years later, they got married and had two children together, Truman Theodore Hanks and Chester 'Chet' Hanks.

Wilson also became stepmom to Hanks' older kids, Colin, 45, and Elizabeth, 40.

After spending over 35 years together, the couple achieved a relationship milestone on Sunday as the singer-songwriter uploaded a photo of Hanks presenting her with a cake.

"35 years of marriage. April 30, 1988. Love is everything," her caption read.

The Toy Story actor is lovingly looking at his giddy wife in admiration as he hands her a yellow frosted cake with 'Happy Anniversary' written on top.

Their A-list friends were quick to congratulate the couple, with Leslie Odom, Jr. commenting: "Just beautiful! Congratulations."

My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos added: "Happy Anniversary you beautiful kids!!!!"

Jessica Capshaw also penned: "The best."

This follows on from Wilson's admission that she slowed down her career when her kids were young so she could spend time with the family.

"I slowed down my work because I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool and did all those things," she told PEOPLE in December.

"Tom was also working a lot, so we would travel with him. If both of us were working and not home, my kids would have been affected. I wouldn't call slowing down my career a sacrifice, I would call it a choice."

The singer said she's always been happy for Hanks' success.

"Tom and I have always been supportive of each other and what we do," she added.

"I remember doing press junkets back in the day, and interviewers would say to me, 'Gosh, it must be so difficult to be with someone so famous.' I would think, 'Why are they saying that?'

"Then I realized that the question was more about them and how they would feel in that situation than me."
