The head of the Peaky Blinders clan Thomas Shelby has been hit with horrific news in this week's new episode.
Episode four of the new season starts with a grim funeral scene for Tommy's daughter Ruby, who lost her life from consumption disease aged seven.
Advert
After a heartfelt speech, Tommy (Cillian Murphy) appears to leave the funeral early to take his anger out on the Gypsies he blames for giving Ruby 'a curse', which lead to her death.
An emotionally unstable Tommy drives to the woods and kills a woman and three men before breaking down into tears shortly after.
Tommy then meets with fellow Gypsy Esme, who returns in the previous episode, and hands over some 'golddust' to suggest that their 'business is done'.

That's when a shock discovery comes as Esme reminds Tommy that before he went to fight in WWI, he slept with a girl called Zelda under a hazel tree in mid-1914.
Without knowing, Tommy headed off for battle, where meanwhile, Zelda had given birth to Tommy's son...
He reacts by saying he wants nothing to do with the boy.

However, Esme then points out his apparent son, who is walking nearby, to which Tommy looks completely shellshocked.
Despite finding out he has a grown up son - the real shock comes later on in the episode.
After securing a deal with Uncle Jack to sell his Opium in Boston, Shelby is hit by the news that he has a medical condition linked to his daughter's death.
The doctor who turns up to the family mansion informs Tommy that he is suffering from tuberculoma.
Advert
For those unaware, tuberculoma can mimic cancer tumours of many types in medical imaging studies.
The medical expert informs him that the disease is inoperable and he has between 'one year and 18 months' for his condition to take over his physical health.
Tommy's plans to infiltrate fascism and become a better father look to be under huge threat following the news.

The official synopsis for the new episode reads: "Tommy establishes a connection between crime and political power that could alter the course of history.
"He also receives life-changing news from an unexpected source."
