After Top Gun: Maverick’s blockbuster success, questions have started to be asked about a Top Gun 3! The sequel to the beloved 1986 classic has received universal praise, as fans can swim in a sea of nostalgia, which has been especially boosted by Tom Cruise who revived the revered character of 'Maverick.’
Here’s everything you need to know about the potential new movie…
Why Might There Be A Top Gun 3?
The huge popularity of Top Gun: Maverick has meant there has been talk of a third Top Gun. The film grossed a whopping $51.8 million on Friday, which included $19.3 million in previews. This puts Maverick just shy of the highest grossing opening weekend film, with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,’ taking top spot. This financial success has made the possibility of a third film very attractive.

Although there is no official plan for a third Top Gun, its' going ahead has been teased. When talking to Indie Wire Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell (Hangman) said there has to be decent ground for another sequel, stating “there’s no reason in just adding another movie to the filmography of the world, if it doesn’t contribute or beat the original.” He later adds “If we can figure out more crazy things to do with aeroplanes or a story that is compelling and emotional and adventurous and romantic and all those things like, I am sure Tom would be down.” All in all, don’t get your hopes up too much as we waited 36 years for the recent sequel, we might be waiting a long time for a Top Gun 3 announcement.
