It looks like season two of Danny McBride's HBO comedy The Righteous Gemstones begins filming this month.

A casting call for extras has been put out by the same company that looked after the first season, with people in the Charleston area of South Carolina asked to take part, specifying they must be available for filming on 16 March.

Tona B. Dahlquist Casting put the post on Facebook on 4 March with some specifications.

The post asks for people to live nearby or within driving distance.

It reads: "This is a late 1960's Scene. This means SHORT HAIR and NO FACIAL HAIR for Males. Women should not have any modern hair color or hair styles. No long or flashy nail colors."

The post adds: "MUST be 100 percent available on filming day. MUST be able to attend 2 separate Covid testings prior to filming date. These test will be provided by and paid for by production.

"Those being tested will receive a pay adjustment for each test. Wardrobe would also like to pre fit as many filming this scene prior to the filming date. A pay bump adjustment for fitting will also be added to your pay voucher."

The HBO show centres around a greedy and sneaky televangelist family. It first came out in 2019, with John Goodman starring, and was renewed for a second just three weeks after it started.

Danny McBride is executive producer, director, writer and actor, and he stars alongside Goodman, as well as Adam DeVine and Edi Patterson.

As with many productions, the pandemic delayed filming plans. Goodman plays Eli Gemstone, the patriarch of the family, whereas McBride plays his son, Jesse Gemstone - the natural heir to the family's TV religious throne.

As surmised to Variety, Jesse 'fancies himself a maverick in the ministry game, taking what Eli has built and expanding it for a more modern audience'.

Jesse also 'demands loyalty from those in his circle' so we can expect fireworks, obviously.

The show is a send up specifically aimed at TV preachers such as Joel Osteen. Osteen became the latest in a long line of shamed televangelists after it was revealed he was taking donations during Hurricane Harvey while also keeping his mega-church closed to those who needed shelter.
