Key requirements of Harry Potter UK casting call for new Harry, Ron and Hermione in upcoming TV series

Key requirements of Harry Potter UK casting call for new Harry, Ron and Hermione in upcoming TV series

We've already had movies but now there's going to be a Harry Potter TV series

A casting call has gone out across the UK in an attempt to find the new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

HBO and Warner Bros are working on a Harry Potter TV show that's meant to be a more faithful adaptation of the books and will span several years, as presumably the actors will age up with their characters.

While Harry Potter fans have had a crack at casting some of the roles with actors they'd like to see in the series, the actual casting has begun at last.

A UK wide casting call has gone out to try and find the kids who will have a crack at playing Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Sadly for all the middle-aged Harry Potter fans who think they'd give it a good go and bring a lot of passion to the role, there are some important requirements that the kids who ultimately get the role will have to meet to be in with a chance of getting the part.

At the moment, they're only considering children who live in the UK or Ireland who will be aged between nine and 11 in April 2025.

Anyone who wants to apply will need to create two videos, the first a 30 second snippet of them performing something like a poem or short story of their choice.

However, the story can't be anything Harry Potter related and the child will have to use their own accent so they know what their prospective Harry, Ron and Hermione will sound like.

The second video can be up to a minute-long where the kid will have to say where they live, as well as giving their date of birth and height.

They'll also get a bit of time to tell the casting team about themselves, and to talk about friends, family or pets they're close to.

The Cast It website has all the details and is the only place anyone hoping their kid might be the next young wizard can apply and the deadline for applications is 31 October this year.

Naturally you'd expect this to be a multiple year thing so anyone going for this would need to be prepared to be doing it for quite a long time.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that he expected the show to debut in 2026, USA Today reports.

A Harry Potter series is always going to stir up strange feelings considering the movies were such an iconic adaptation of the books.

Try as they might this new show is going to be compared to the movies, though some Potter fans might hope promises of a faithful adaptation mean some bits that got cut from the movies will be kept in.

J.K. Rowling has also become a rather more controversial figure compared to the days when the movies were being released.

She recently said that she would 'never forgive' Daniel Radcliffe after he apologised to the transgender community for the 'pain' Rowling had caused them following her comments.
