I'm A Celeb medic shared gruesome reason he had to remind celebrities to shower on show

Former I'm A Celeb medic Bob McCarron has opened up about the grim reality of living in camp

When former I'm A Celeb medic Bob McCarron wasn't rescuing Gillian McKeith, he was dishing out some pretty grim advice for celebs holed up in the jungle.

It's no secret that being on I'm A Celeb is a tough gig. You have to deal with snakes, spiders and bugs - and that's not even getting into all the other celebrities you'll be bunking with.

But regardless, hygiene is important to stay on top of - even if it is a freezing cold nature shower.

And given that the campmates will spend three weeks going through three pairs of underwear, this isn't the easiest task.

I reckon it'd be easier to dunk my head into a box of snakes than it would to spend nearly a month with three pairs of boxers.

But I digress.

The show's former medic has spoken out about a hygiene issue that has reared its head among the show's contestants over the years.

Bob McCarron was appearing on the spin-off show Extra Camp when he made the admission.

But when he wasn't rescuing celebrities, he was dishing out hygiene advice.

One piece of advice being to use the shower.

The shower may be a waterfall but it's still water nonetheless, and going against this advice can have seriously gross consequences.

McCarron explained: "Most people think of fungus as mushrooms but we have problems with the cast every year – especially women growing fungus on certain body parts.

"I’ve been instructing them to use the shower and personal hygiene a little bit more often."

And judging by the reaction of host Joel Dommett, the area in question was rather private.

It was in reference to breasts, which is definitely a place you don't want fungus to be growing.

Not that I can think of any body part I'd like to play host to spores.

Either way, campers are given biodegradable soap and shampoo to use to keep themselves clean.

And if there's one thing you can count on I'm A Celeb for, it's getting stars dirty.

Whether it be through getting fish guts dropped on them or crawling through a vat of bugs, these celebs are constantly in need of a good scrub.

Ten contestants are left on this year's I'm A Celeb, with Jane Moore and Dean McCullough being the first two evicted.

I'm A Celeb airs each night at 9.00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
