Gripping true crime thriller is being hailed as the replacement for Mindhunter season three

Gripping true crime thriller is being hailed as the replacement for Mindhunter season three

Is there a Mindhunter-shaped hole in your heart?

If you've barely been able to leave the house due to being inconsolable at the fact that we're not getting a season three of Mindhunter then you might want something else to distract you.

Yes, people loved the Netflix crime thriller and very much didn't love that they had to wait so long before learning that two seasons was all they were getting.

There had been an idea to make five seasons of the show but plans for season three were put on hold, the actors were released from their contracts and in 2024 David Fincher said it was all officially done and dusted.

Fortunately for fans of crime thrillers there's more of those on TV than you can shake a stick at and last month a new one released which you might like.

It's called Lady In The Lake and it's an adaptation of a book of the same name which was hailed as 'extraordinary' by Stephen King.

Written in 2019 by Laura Lippman, who was inspired to pen the book based on two real murders which occurred when she was young, Lady In The Lake follows a woman who becomes an investigative reporter in the US city of Baltimore.

The series does much the same, with Natalie Portman playing investigative journalist Maddie Schwartz as she goes through the unsolved murder cases of bartender Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) and 11-year-old Tessie Durst (Bianca Belle).

Screen Rant reckons it's a good substitute for Mindhunter which could fill that deep void in your heart where the Netflix show used to be.

It's got a pretty good 77 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes so if you do want to watch it you're likely to be in for a good time.

At least if your idea of a good time is watching grisly crime dramas, which is probably the case for a lot of people given the genre's popularity.

Of course, Mindhunter was on Netflix and Lady In The Lake is an Apple TV thing, so if you're wanting to replace one with the other you'd best hope you've got the right subscriptions.

There's lots of good stuff on there but about 17.1 million households in the UK have Netflix whereas only about 2.4 million have Apple TV so plenty could be missing out on the show.

Anyway, happy watching!
