While others are watching a film about a man making chocolate at the cinema or binging a British crime drama, some people are busy watching a pretty ‘horrifying’ documentary.

And apparently, this HBO one shows the ‘most insane sh*t’ as it takes a deep dive into an infamous American cult and the gruesome way its leader was found dead. Watch the trailer here:

Docu-series Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God premiered back in November 2023 and has been branded as ‘darkly funny, bewildering and ultimately horrifying’.

Available on NOW and Sky, the three-part series is all about religious leader Amy Carlson, who went by the moniker ‘Mother God’.

Both the Love Has Won followers and their leader believed Carlson to be God and a reincarnation of various historical leaders, from Joan of Arc to Marilyn Monroe, as well as Jesus Christ.

The woman was once a McDonald’s manager, but began to grow her movement from 2014 onwards.

Love Has Won was a mix of ‘New Age spirituality, conspiracy theories, and mainstream religions’ and ultimately ended when Carlson died.

She and her followers believed she could heal cancer sufferers with ‘the power of love’ and while she were alive, she proclaimed alcohol and drugs were her 'medicine'.

Carlson even drank colloidal silver, a controversial alternative medicine which has been deemed unsafe and ineffective.

Consuming pretty much nothing but alcohol and that towards the end, her face physically turned blue.

Many of her followers believed her health declined because she was taking on the world’s negative energy and that she would eventually 'ascend' - but instead, she died at the age of 45.

In April 2021, 12 days on from Carlson's death, police found her mummified body wrapped in a sleeping bag and Christmas lights in Colorado.

After Carlson had died, it’s reported her followers travelled across five US stated with her body in the back of an SUV.

And an autopsy revealed that rather than the ‘pain of the world’ being the cause of her death, Carlson died of organ failure after a long period of alcohol abuse, anorexia and colloidal silver dosing.

It is said ‘Mother God’ lost more than 50 pounds before she died.

There is evidence to suggest colloidal silver can cause problems with a person's kidneys, liver and nervous system, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

And it’s the side-effect of argyria which caused her face to turn blue, with footage from Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God showing her in the final stages of her life with a changed face.

Users on X say they were left ‘SHOOK’ by the docu-series and that it’s ‘engaging and completely bonkers at times’.
