Netflix fans are raving about 'one of the most underrated shows' and people are calling for third series

Is it really the end of the world if it's the end of the show?

Given the constant churn of content on the internet these days, you would absolutely be forgiven for having missed some damn good television.

Luckily you've got me to tell you which shows might be worth your time to double back to, and I'm the best person I know when it comes to deciding what's good to watch.

Now you know I've got your best interests at heart, it's time for you to crack on with a marvellously loved show from a few years ago that you might have missed when it was first on.

It appeared first on Channel 4, but if you're subscribed to Netflix the whole thing is on there to stream ad-free, provided of course you pay for the more expensive ad-free version of that platform.

Anyhow, the series is a black comedy about a disturbed young man called James (Alex Lawther) who plans to kill someone, and settles on classmate Alyssa (Jessica Barden).

She in turn suggests they run away together, and he says yes so he can get a prime opportunity to murder her.

However, things quickly go off the rails and the whole thing spirals from there.

The show, The End of the F***ing World, has James and Alyssa encountering serial killing rapists, disappointing parental figures and the own facts of their life which they'd not wanted to confront.

It gained quite the cult following when it first released, and after a second season released, there were some hopes that we'd see more of James and Alyssa.

While generally people have said they 'love this show', some have added that they 'wish there was more to go'.

Perhaps you can't have too much of a good thing, and it'd be interesting to check in with how James and Alyssa are getting on several years after we last saw them.

The thing is, do we really need a third season?

The world may not have ended in this show, but the show might have ended in this world. (Channel 4)

The first series of The End of the F***ing World definitely deserved a follow-up, what with that cliffhanger of an ending where James got shot.

Their lives had been thrown up into the air and a follow-up would show us where they landed and what happened next.

But the second series ended with James scattering his dad's ashes, or the gloop they'd congealed into, before he and Alyssa agree they love each other.

They might need time, some psychological help and to figure out how to pay back Alyssa's mum for the £10,000 she owes her, but it's a rather definitively hopeful note.

What is The End of the F***ing World if James and Alyssa finally seem to understand each other, more episodes run the risk of just hurling some conflict their way for the sake of more content.

Perhaps we should be content with what we've already had from the show.

Besides, before the release of the second series, writer Charlie Covell said there were no intentions to make a third.
