Main purpose of reality TV show where couples have been repeatedly cheating on each other in 'historic' scenes explained

Here is everything you need to know about the infamous La Isla de Las Tentaciones

Have you ever hit a roadblock in your relationship or found yourself wondering if a partner is the right person for you?

Well, how about signing up for a TV series which broadcasts you being tempted into infidelity being broadcast to the nation.

Now this may sound a little unorthodox to you and I, but this is exactly what goes down on Spanish series La Isla de Las Tentaciones (Temptation Island).

And if this is the sort of relationship test you're looking for, beware, as the show is not for the faint hearted.

What is the main purpose of La Isla de Las Tentaciones (Temptation Island)?

We're no stranger to reality dating shows in the UK, thanks to programmes such as Love Island, Love is Blind or Too Hot To Handle, but Temptation Island focuses on the most extreme aspects of these shows and then adds another level of drama.

The series features five real life couples who agree to be split up and spend several weeks in two separate villas on a tropical island. But like Love Island's Casa Amor feature, this isn't any old holiday in the sun as the contestants are then joined by a bunch of singletons - referred to as 'the tempters' - who are hoping to make them stray from their partner.

If that doesn't sound bad enough, contestants' indiscretions are live streamed for their partners to watch - which is how we've ended up with our infamous 'Montoya, por favor!' moment that's been flooding your timelines for the past few weeks.

The scandal.

Anyone whose familiar with the show will also be more than aware that contestants watching their partners get hot and heavy with a person they've only just met isn't something of a rare occasion either, as the show's breakout star José Carlos Montoya has now had to watch his girlfriend, Anita Williams, in bed with another bloke not once, but twice. Twice!

Which makes the 30-year-old flamenco singer's decision to rip his shirt open like the hulk, kick an iPad over and sprint the length of a beach like Usain Bolt a little more understandable.

Montoya hasn't exactly been a saint either, with recent episodes revealing that he has well and truly gotten revenge on his straying girlfriend.

What happens at the end of La Isla de Las Tentaciones (Temptation Island)?

At the end of their explosive stay in the Dominican Republic, the couples all meet back up and decide whether or not they want to leave the island with their original partner or a new single they've become acquainted with in the villa.

As for the status of Montoya and Anita post-show, reports coming out of Spain are suggesting the couple may still be together (via Capital FM) — proving that being tempted into cheating may not be the worst way to test your relationship after all.

Although, we don't suggest trying this one at home.
