Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant's super-difficult £64k question branded 'worst ever'

This one probably could have come later in the show

A man who did really rather well on Who Wants to be a Millionaire ended up having to navigate an incredibly difficult question along the way.

The show works on the whole basis that 'it's only easy if you know the answer', and sometimes the answer is just really hard to work out.

When Glen Bunn ventured onto the quiz show, things went really very well for him at first.

He stormed through the first few questions before ever so slightly hitting the wall with the £16,000 one, having to burn his 50-50 and Phone a Friend lifelines to get through.

Glen then had to ask host Jeremy Clarkson for some help on the next question and having shed three of his four lifelines he was probably quite glad he'd set his safety net at £32,000.

Guys, that's a really hard question.

It's always the way with Who Wants to be a Millionaire - a contestant is doing impressively well until they hit that question which saps their lifelines and things start to spiral.

Even worse for Glen is that he then ran smack bang into a question which plenty of viewers thought was really hard.

"From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which of these letters?" went the question, and he could have picked G, K, M or W.

Viewers at home thought it was the 'worst question I have ever heard on a TV quiz show' and 'tough for £64k'.

Not knowing the answer and with one lifeline remaining, he used his second Phone a Friend (this episode was filmed during the pandemic so there was no audience), but his wife's best friend Molly had no idea.

Fortunately Glen took a guess at 'G' and did manage to get this question right, doubling his money.

Having set his safety net at £32,000 he'd not actually have lost anything for getting it wrong besides the opportunity to make even more cash.

That's exactly what he ended up doing as he then tackled the £125,000 question: "The acronym CRISPR relates to a technology used in which area of scientific research?"

Not a bad day at the office.

He was given the choice between carbon dating, animal classification, social anthropology and the correct answer of gene editing.

Ultimately he did get that one right in the end and increased his winnings further.

However, facing a £250,000 question about Vincent van Gogh's painting techniques with no lifelines remaining, Glen wisely decided to walk away with his £125,000.

It turned out to be the right decision, as he would have claimed that van Gogh was a master of the Grisaille technique instead of Impasto, and would have been knocked back down to his safety net of £32,000.

Art lovers among you will know that Impasto is a technique were paint is laid thickly on the canvas, while Grisaille entirely uses shades of grey and usually attempts to look like pictures of sculptures.

Get in, get yourself some decent money and then cash out when you're stuck, it's a good way to play Millionaire.
