A woman who decided to stay celibate until her wedding night has shared the five things she wished she'd known prior to the big day.
Not too many generations ago, marriage was a huge step for couples. Not only would they be committing the rest of their lives to each other in-front of loved ones, but a wedding also marked the moment that a bride and groom would move in together, build a life and, of course, have sexual intercourse for the first time.

Times have since moved on from this traditional view of relationships and marriage, which means that most married couples will have made sure they're compatible both in and out of bed before heading off to the altar.
However some couples still prefer to do things the traditional way for numerous religious and cultural reasons - with one Christian influencer sharing her five tips for women who are waiting until marriage to be intimate with their partner for the first time.
Canadian YouTuber Alicia Tucker tied the knot with her husband John back in 2020 and decided to hold off on sex until they'd tied the knot. Following the experience, Alicia decided to share her advice for women in a video titled 'Wedding night tips for the celibate brides'.
Here is all the advice Alicia had for women who've decided on waiting until the big night.
Talk about sex beforehand with your fiancé
Her first tip was that a celibate bride should be open with her partner in the days leading up to their 'first time' if she's feeling nervous.

Alicia explained: "So if you have a little bit of nerves about sex hurting you for the first time, definitely voice that to your fiancé."
To ease pre-sex nerves, Alicia suggested that couples showered together beforehand.
Pee after sex
Alicia's next tip is important not only for brides but a universal tip regarding sex for anyone with a vagina - peeing after intercourse.

She said: "It's so important to pee after you have sex.
"You can so easily get a UTI if you don't pee after having sex because there are a lot of fluids that happen during sex and if that goes into the wrong area, you can be in a lot of pain."
Lay a towel down
Her third tip was a practical solution to the possibility of bleeding after having sex for the first time, with Alicia suggesting that virgin brides lay out on a towel on the bed.
Just laugh it off if things are awkward
Alicia said you should try not to feel embarrassed or self-conscious.

"If it's uncomfortable, if it doesn't go super smooth, just laugh it off. That's a big part of the intimacy experience," she explained.
Be present in the moment
She said: "It's so difficult when your adrenaline is so high and it's a new experience that you have wanted for your whole life and your emotions are so high that it's really hard to be present."
Clearly the advice worked for Alicia and John, who have since welcomed their first child together, with the content creator's advice being beneficial even to people who haven't waited until their wedding night.
