For readers who didn't make a resolution to eat healthier this New Year, or those who just fancy a 'cheat day', McDonald's has announced it's slashed the price of one of its fan-favourite menu items by HALF.

It's true! As of 11am today (8 January), fast-food fans and drive-thru regulars can pick up a delicious McChicken sandwich for a bargain price.

This juicy treat - a crispy coated breast of chicken, placed upon a tender bed of lettuce, smothered with special sandwich sauce and surrounded by a soft, sesame seed bun - usually retails for £4.19, according to the McDonald's website, but will cost you just £1.39 today.

There's just one catch, however.

This is a one-day only deal, so McDonald's customers only have from 11am TODAY - when the breakfast menu comes to an end - until midnight tonight to bag themselves this eyebrow-raising bargain.

If you can't make it to your local restaurant after 11am, there's another deal you can take up, that'll secure you a beloved breakfast item for an astonishing £1.19.

You'll be able to buy a single McMuffin - filled with your choice of either a succulent sausage patty or a banging strip of bacon, paired with a creamy free-range egg and slice of rich American cheese - for this newly-slashed price, as opposed to the usual cost of around £3.

But again, this price only lasts for one day, and both deals are only available via the McDonald's app, with customers able to earn points when they purchase one of these products by opting into MyMcDonald's Rewards.

Each penny spent bagging yourself a McChicken sandwich or single McMuffin equates one point.

This popular loyalty scheme allows customers to access rewards when they hit specific milestones.

If you've saved up a staggering 1,500 points, you can secure yourself a free menu item, from small fries, a hash brown, a regular soft drink or a side salad.

Alternatively, if you've earned as much as 2,500 points, you can choose from Double Cheeseburger, Vegetable Deluxe or an apple pie.

4,000 points can bag you a six-piece chicken nugget meal, a Big Mac or Filet-O-Fish, and 5,000 will get you a Mighty Muffin, McSpicy, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese or McCrispy.

It would be rude not to, really...

And if you fill out a quick feedback survey by entering a 12-digit code on your receipt from a prior purchase, you can also secure some lip-smacking freebies.

Lastly, it's important to choose yourself the right McDonald's restaurant, being that prices vary across the different locations.
