Kudos to the scientists conducting groundbreaking research and all that, but where is the same recognition for this man of the people who is carrying out extremely important experiments into the McDonald's ordering process?
Then again, you can hardly award a Nobel Prize to a guy simply known online as Greg (@greg16676935420) and whose social media account is mainly dedicated to memes - but on Sunday (19 May), he certainly made a name for himself on X.
That's because the mystery man managed to satisfy the curiosity of pretty much every McDonald's customer ever by finding out what actually happens if you order a burger with absolutely everything removed.
Although the investigation might not necessarily have a revolutionary outcome that makes the world a better place, Greg's dedication to the cause has at least cleared up how the fast food giant might react to a rogue order like this.

He explained that he had ordered a triple cheeseburger - which usually boasts ketchup, mustard, pickle, diced onions, three beef patties, American cheese, salt and is encased in a regular bun - with absolutely zilch on it. Not even the bun!
The amateur researcher submitted his unusual order that initially totalled up to $5.39 on the DoorDash app, which is an online food ordering service in the US similar to the likes of UberEats.
But with the addition of a $3 service fee, 42 cents in tax and an $11 dollar tip for his delivery driver, the price soon shot up to a whopping $19.81 - which is a dear do considering he's getting a whole load of nothing on his burger.
In a thread on X where he encouraged people to 'stay tuned to see what happens', Greg joked that he was hoping his local McDonald's branch 'don't mess up his order' like they 'usually do'.

The DoorDash app informed him that his order had been placed and sent to the restaurant for 'final confirmation', so a lot of people were waiting with bated breath at this point as they expected it to be declined.
But incredibly, his order was accepted and a delivery driver named Dan was entrusted to carry it.
However, the courier was clearly confused by the description of Greg's triple cheeseburger and contacted him to make sure it was right.

He messaged the social media user saying: "Cheeseburger with everything removed including the bun and meat...so you're gonna get an empty box. You good with that?"
Greg responded saying, "Perfect, thank you," before patiently resuming his wait for Dan to turn up.
Sharing a snap of his McDonald's delivery bag, he told his followers a short time later: "The goods have arrived and thank goodness they sealed it so Dan didn’t steal my meal. Time to feast."
Now, for the moment you've all been waiting for - what happened when he ordered an empty triple cheeseburger?

Greg explained he had excitedly opened the bag to find what appeared to be a McDonald's burger wrapper alongside a McCrispy box.
He joked: "I ordered a freaking triple burger not a McCrispy. Somehow they still managed to screw up my order (not your fault Dan if you’re reading this)."
The prankster then explained he couldn't 'stay silent about this' and gave McDonald's a two star rating while adding on the feedback form: "I ordered a triple cheeseburger (with everything removed) and they sent me a McCrispy box."

But don't worry if you're panicking about Dan getting it in the neck, as Gregg gave him the full five stars - and an update on the entire saga.
He sent the delivery driver a message, which seemingly went unanswered, saying: "Can you believe it Dan, I ordered a triple cheeseburger and somehow they screwed it up and sent me a McCrispy box."
The experiment quickly went viral online and people had plenty to say about it's outcome.
One wrote: "Hope it tasted good?"
Another said: "I followed the story, and remained invested to the end, Greg."
A third added: "This is literally the best thread on X this entire year."
A fourth joked: "Not gonna lie Greg, this was probably the best burger they never made."
While a fifth chimed in: "Impressive, Dan was really looking out for you. Definitely earned that tip."
Greg revealed he had actually already carried out this probe in December 2022, while using a McDouble as the subject.
However, it seemed the McDonald's workers didn't fancy humouring him on that day as they informed him they were cancelling the order via DoorDash while branding it a 'waste of time'.
Reflecting on both attempts, Greg said his initial try had brought 'much worse results', so overall he was 'satisfied that McDonalds *almost* got his order right' this time round.
