Popular drink could leave your teeth permanently yellow, expert warns

Forget having pearly whites if you drink this beverage

A study has confirmed that the one drink many Brits love to sip on each day is turning our teeth yellow.

It’s a sad world we live in, where the yummiest of snacks and beverages are often the most harmful to our health, from ultra-processed foods being linked to cancers, to diet fizzy pop causing your digestive track some issues.

Is nothing sacred? Apparently not.

According to the new study conducted by Sanitas, there are some foods and drinks which are the worst for your teeth.

Particularly, when it comes to eroding your enamel, some drinks can be worse than other, and come with a range of issues in itself.

The enamel is the outer layer of your gnashers, which essentially protect your teeth from breakage, and gives them that nice pearly colour.

However, once it’s eroded away, it can mean you’re more susceptible to tooth fractures.

So, if it’s eroding your enamel, surely it’s going to be something that’s looks and tastes like it’s made from pure sugar cane, right?

Wrong.

Dental experts have warned that this drink (delicious, by the way) can contribute to this erosion and change colour of your teeth at the same time.

Then, it can lead to even worse things for your oral health.

So, what’s this drink that’s ruining teeth?

Of course, it’s coffee.

This yummy hot beverage has been keeping office workers alive for decades, with its smell, taste, and variety of ways it can be chugged.

Even decaf is better than no coffee at all, and I dare you to say that I’m wrong.

It’s pretty crap that the experts confirmed coffee could be the reason the whiteness of your teeth is fading.

How else are we to become normal, functioning humans less than an hour before work? You do not want to see me before a coffee.

While red wine and dark soft drinks are also prone to staining your teeth, as per Infobae, it’s just not as heartbreaking as coffee.

Why are they ruining your white smile?

Well, apparently, it’s because all of these products contain chromogens.

Chromogens make up the composition of the drink colour, and it’s also kind of sticky, so it’s prone to latching onto your teeth.

So, it doesn’t even matter how hard you brush your teeth, whether you decided to use strips, gels, powders, or whatever other whitening treatment is available.

If you keep drinking staining drinks, they’ll mean that sooner or later, your teeth will be yellowing again.

What’s even worse for those who like to drink coffee all day long is that it can cause cavities.

A tooth-teller named Lesley took to TikTok to explain that spacing out your caffeine intake by sipping on coffee throughout the day was a potential risk if you put sugar in your coffee.

She explained: "Most people would think that because they’re drinking out of a straw, and they’re constantly sipping on it, it’s better.

"If you’re sipping on it all day long, that’s how you get cavities because you have sugar in your mouth all day long."

So, that’s it folks.

No more coffee for us if we want pearly whites.
