Viral new ‘method’ to get more food at Chipotle has people feeling sorry for the staff

There's no such thing as a free lunch, and you're just making someone's job harder

People are feeling incredibly sorry for the staff who have been on the receiving end of a viral 'method' people are using to get more food.

There is something called the 'phone method' which people are using so they are doled out larger portions at Chipotle, and apparently it's a very simple but effective way of getting more.

All it takes is to have your phone out and filming while you order your food, with the intention of scaring the person behind the counter into thinking that you might be an influencer with a decently large following who will say mean things about them on the internet if everything isn't beyond perfect.

In an attempt to dodge potential bad publicity, it seems as though the people behind the counter will dole out a more generous portion just to be on the safe side.

People filming themselves getting food have been posting the results online and it appears to have worked for them.

However, plenty are sparing a thought for the staff who now have to worry whether an extra spoonful of cheese is going to be the difference between an uneventful shift and people moaning at them for being stingy with the dairy products.

One person said it was 'just rude' to be doing that, while another wanted customers to 'leave them alone' as they didn't want people to get in trouble.

"I'm not shameless enough to film a service worker while they make my food," a third said, while a fourth chimed in to add that they 'feel so bad for the people that work at Chipotle'.

Certain reactions were slightly more extreme, as one person advocated for the execution of people 'who pull out their cameras for a routine interaction with a food service employee', but someone else suggested the slightly less extreme option of 'prison time'.

"Don’t do this. Fast food workers don’t need this. Just order your food and leave," was another response, and while some delighted in the idea that they could get more food, plenty sympathised with the staff.

Another popular suggestion was allowing people who worked in retail or served food the chance to 'punch one customer per shift without facing any repercussions'.

There are probably quite a few retail staff workers who'd like that sort of thing.

It's reached the point where the actual company is joking about this on TikTok, as Chipotle has posted a video which makes fun of its customers being on their phones.

Just remember that the person on the other side of the counter is going about their day and they don't need you to be a headache for them.
