Man went to live in all-inclusive resort after claiming it was cheaper than living at home

Ben Keenan blew people's minds with his discovery, so if you see people moving into a resort, you know who to blame

If you've ever dreamed about packing your bags and moving into an all-inclusive resort, this bloke just might convince you to finally take the plunge.

Ben Keenan, from the US, became so sick of splashing cash on his living expenses that he decided to do the math - and show his working out - to determine if it would be cheaper to live in a swanky hotel instead.

The TikTok user totted up how much he is paying for the essentials in life each month - including rent, WiFi, utilities, his car and its insurance, food, a gym membership, and the money he spends eating out and drinking.

He realised that all-inclusive resorts actually offer the majority of these amenities for free (once you've paid for your stay, of course) and that it would probably cost him less to book into one rather than abiding by his usual lifestyle.

In a video uploaded to TikTok, he asked his followers: "Have we ever considered that it’s actually cheaper to live in an all-inclusive resort than it is to live in the apartments that we currently occupy?"

He goes on to explain that he began to get ‘curious’ about if living in a hotel would be more economical than spending $4,000 (£3,150) a month on essentials each month - and his suspicion was right.

Ben searched for all-inclusive holidays in Mexico, where he found that he could bag himself a month-long stay in Cancun for $4,445 (£3,501), which is slightly higher than his current outgoings but - as he pointed out, most likely a fair bit less than what some folks pay for rent.

He then looked for similar month-long all-inclusive breaks in the Dominican Republic, where he managed to find a trip for just $3,162 (£2,504) to stay at the Coral Costa Caribe Beach Resort.

Ben went on to say that you could even splash out on one of the pricer trips, costing around $7,500 (£5,543), if you were happy to split the cost with someone else and stay in one of the standard double rooms on offer.

On top of that, you could say goodbye to household chores too - which makes the prospect that much more attractive.

Summing up his findings, Ben added: "So, do with this information what you will.

"I just thought it was really interesting there’s a chance I could truly go and live an all-inclusive lifestyle somewhere for approximately the same cost as all of my monthly expenses.

"And that’s crazy to me."

A lot of social media users seemed to think it was pretty mental too, as they flooded the comment section with their thoughts on Ben's idea.

One person joked: "'All inclusive resort' AKA a millennial assisted living/home."

Another said: "This is the future!"

A third added: "This is pretty brilliant honestly. I can do my job from anywhere... hmmm…"

A fourth chimed in: "All I can think about is how much time we would save not cleaning, cooking and grocery shopping."

And a fifth wrote: "You're really onto something."

What do you think?
