There’s no denying that the idea of a ‘2,000-person nude cruise’ is going to raise a few eyebrows. Even for the not-so prudish of us it may seem like a lot.
But there’s a whole travel company dedicated to these clothing-optional trips; Texas-based Bare Necessities and it’s been at it since the 90s.
Now before you’re buried deep in the gutter, it’s worth noting that these aren’t some mad, sex-party filled or swingers-oriented cruise ships. Instead, they are simply holidays for naturists/nudists – people who engage in the lifestyle of going naked in designated areas.

And every year, the company sails its ‘Big Nude Boat’ in the waters of the Caribbean with one man who was onboard 2024’s trip answering the questions ‘everyone wants to know’.

The American man took to Reddit before his trip last year as he and his partner hoped to ‘make a few acquaintances’ before boarding. With only one ‘very small’ nude cruise under their belt but ‘lots of nudism experience’, others told them they had previously ‘had a blast’.
When he got back from his trip, he offered up an ‘ask me anything’ about his experience but somewhat unsurprisingly, was absolutely inundated with questions.
So, explaining that he couldn’t ‘possibly respond to every single question’ he decided to answer the five ‘most asked’.

This led to him immediately clarifying that ‘the staff’ were all ‘dressed’ during the cruise.
He then went on to explain that it was a holiday for nudists and ‘not a “lifestyle” cruise’.
“Accordingly, there was no public sex and no erections that I saw,” the man said. “An erection would be considered poor form in this environment.”
The nudist then went on to say that ‘generally speaking’ the crowd onboard was ‘older and not particularly attractive’.
“However, there were attractive people too,” the man in his early 60s added.

He then went on to clarify the ‘why’ for this kind of trip as he said it’s simply ‘because it’s a nice feeling to be nude’.
“Just like it's a nice feeling for a man to be without a shirt at the beach,” the man said. “Skinny dipping is great. Being nude at some of the world's nicest beaches is great.”
And finally, he went on to clear up any misconceptions around how hygienic a nude cruise is.
“No bare butts on any surface in any public space. Ever,” he explained. “That's not a difficult concept.

“Nudists are as interested in hygiene as much as if not more than the next guy.”
Well, that’s you lot told.
