A British couple who ditched the UK and moved across the world said it was a real 'shock to the system'.
East Sussex couple Roshni Ward, 30, and Louis Hunt, 33, were feeling 'burnt out' by their 'poor work-life balance', with them feeling unsafe in the UK and fed up with the weather.
They were paying £1,350 a month on renting their Rye flat, while they could be spending £300 on the electricity bill and have water bills of £76.
Louis worked as a carpenter while Roshni was a corporate team leader and by the time the weekend rolled around, they both said they felt too tired to do anything.

Having been on holiday to Thailand, they decided to move there in September in search of a 'slower pace of life' where their rent is £300, the electric bill is £44 and they spent just £2.76 a month on water.

Now Roshni works as an online content creator while Louis has a job as a fitness coach, with them enjoying a much cheaper cost of living which means they're not planning to return to the UK if they can help it.
Roshni said: "Since moving, we love the slower pace of life, as well as the weather, the rich culture and the welcoming locals.
"And the cost of everything is so much lower which was a shock to the system - in a good way!

"If we can help it, we won't come back to the UK."
Since migrating to Chiang Mai, Thailand, they've been socialising with a large community of international expats who have also decided to move there.
Since they're working remotely, they still get paid at levels they'd expect in the UK but spend a lot less money on almost everything since prices in Thailand are much lower.

For them, pints are 'no more than £2' and they can spend as little as £8 for a full meal and drinks in a restaurant, while taxi rides are so cheap that they don't need to own a car or bike.

The only thing that's become more expensive for the couple is gravy granules which they pay £5 for.
Roshni said: "In the mornings we can get lie-ins, go to the gym, have a swim and then start work.
"In the UK, everyone starts early and is asleep by 11pm, here, you could finish work at 10pm and everything is still open. Louis has some UK clients - he can have a business call at 11pm and we can still go out for a meal after.
"Anyone will stop and help you if you need it. In the UK, if someone foreign came up to you asking for help, most people wouldn't stop."
The couple said they had also thought about starting a family in Thailand since they reckoned it was 'safer' than the UK.
