Cruise ship worker reveals the three most important things to bring on the boat

These are absolute essentials if you're heading on to a cruise ship for working or pleasure

A cruise ship worker has revealed the three most important things he thinks you should bring on the boat with you.

And they're things that would be deemed essential for both workers and those heading on the open seas for leisure and pleasure.

Bryan James works on cruise ships for 11 months of the year, every year, since first embarked on his career on board them as a musician more than 1,000 days ago.

Uploading snippets from his time working on the ships to TikTok and YouTube, Bryan has revealed exactly what crew members are given for meals - something that left people shocked.

Bryan has also revealed how much he spends every day, as well as show off what life is like inside a £3,100 a night room on the world's largest cruise ship.

As an employee, he's also shed light on what he believes to be the 'number one perk' of working on the open seas.

Taking to TikTok in a recent video, Bryan spoke about the three things he says are essential to bring with you if you're heading on a cruise ship.

Magnets

That's right. Number one on the list is magnets.

And in particular, magnetic hooks. They are a godsend in freeing up floor space in what can feel like very small rooms.

"I work on a cruise ship for 11 months out of the year in a really, really small room so I try and fit everything that I own in to this one small bag," Bryan says.

"So here's the three most important things that pack when I'm living on a cruise ship.

"You have got to come with a bunch of magnets because everything on a cruise ship is made of metal.

"The walls the doors, the floors. These are so important for making your room feel more spacious and every single crew member I know travels with these."

It's a hack for everyone on the ship, whether a crew member or paying customer. Free up that space and remove the clutter.

Universal power adapter

Whether you have an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, iPad or laptop, this can be the holy grail for anyone with any form of tech.

It gives you the freedom of not worrying what the plugs will be like on board while also charging multiple items at once in rooms where there aren't many power outputs.

Bryan says: "You need a power adapter. Crew members cabins typically only come with two plugs that look like this [US wall plug] and the rest look like this [European wall plug]. Or like this [UK wall plug].

"So it makes it so I can plug in anything I want on the ship and can plug one, two, three, four, five different things into it. It's brilliant."

A... cat?

Okay, we're not sure this one will mean anything for you - unless you have a cat, of course.

In fact, it'll only mean something if you work at the very top of the chain on a cruise ship.

"if you're a captain you can bring your cat with you on board," Bryan says, while showing his cat Luke sitting in his luggage. Too cute.

"I'm not a captain, but a man can dream," he says.
