A cruise ship passenger who struck it lucky at the casino ended up bagging one hell of a jackpot.

For the vast majority of passengers a cruise ship is where they go to spend money, not to make it, and they can be pretty expensive places.

So when there's a game of bingo going on at the casino and the prize is being upgraded to an incredibly fancy cabin, you know it's an opportunity not to be missed.

According to Newsweek, Michael Rivera and his husband Garett Talbot were on a 20-day cruise through the Antarctic back in December, when Garett won a game of bingo in the ship's casino.

Rivera then took a video of the couple exploring their new cabin, the ship's most luxurious suite, which passengers wanting to book 20 days in for the cruise would have to fork over up to $50,000 (£38,700).

That's a lot of money but to be fair it's a damn nice cabin with plenty of room, a 'humongous' balcony with reclining chairs, a giant double bed and a bathroom that was likely larger and nicer than some of the other cabins on the ship.

I'm not sure I'd be paying quite that much for the extra luxuries on board the ship, but it certainly was a very fine cabin.

Of course, there were more benefits to the luxury cabin won at the casino than just the amenities that could be seen.

Rivera told Newsweek: "The suite came with access to the special spa area, all the specialty dining, a butler and private concierge, special seating - it was like being in Downton Abbey, but on a ship - we had never experienced anything like this before."

It was certainly a better cruise ship experience than some passengers had endured in their own travels.

You don't want to be one of the unlucky ones who accidentally gets left behind on one of the stops.

Meanwhile, there are other cabins on cruise ships which are very much more functional than anything else, not all of them get windows and they certainly don't all have the spacious balcony that the bingo winning couple scored in the jackpot.

Then, of course, there's the crew quarters, as some cruise lines have their staff living in 'hilariously' small cabins which are pretty much the size of a cupboard.

If you thought the bedrooms were small then you ought to check out the size of their shower.
