Holiday hacks can turn your average week in the sun in to the break of a lifetime, so it's always worth searching the web for the latest bit of info from those who know what they're talking about.
And it is advice that applies particularly so to those who are getting ready to set sail on a cruise ship across the world.
Millions of people head on to the open seas every single year for a cruise ship holiday. From a smaller trip around the Caribbean or a Scandinavian fjord excursion, to a round the world experience lasting for nine months, there really is something for everyone.
The internet is full of advice for those heading on a cruise ship, including from those who work on the vessels themselves. It includes particular advice, especially around topics such as how to hack the cost of the drink packages, including how much you need to drink for it to be worth the money.

And over on Reddit, another hack has been backed by a number of cruise ship passengers in a thread asking for secret things to do on the boats.
Asking for advice, one person heading on to a cruise ship said: "I'm going on a cruise for the first time and I was wondering if there were any secret things to do on a cruise ship a first timer wouldn’t know about?
"I’m not looking for travel or packing advice, there’s more than enough of that on YouTube. Also the cruise is booked already and can not be changed, so I’m not looking for cabin recommendations either.

"While never having been on a cruise, I find the ship itself rather interesting. So what I actually am asking for is, if somebody has a tip for how to get a good look behind the scenes, without breaking any rules of course.
"Or something I can only do on a cruise ship. Eating and drinking, swimming, lying in the sun, while definitely planning to do all that, I can do all of that at any beach or even at home.
"But I want to experience a few things that make a cruise special and can’t seem to find a lot of these. So if anyone has a recommendation, I would be more than grateful."
One recurring theme was taking advantage of the views combined with a lack of people, which comes down to one thing people don't like doing on their holidays: getting up early.

"Get up early one morning and go for a walk around the ship," one person replied. "6.30am or a half hour before sunrise is fine. Walk the upper deck if it's open. The solitude is amazing.
"The only people you will see are crew cleaning, a couple other early birds (usually older folks) and maybe a drunk that's still up.
"Sit in a chair, see the sun rise, watch the water go by, thank the crew for their hard work. I always think it's cool that the ship is full of passengers and crew, and it's still so quiet and peaceful."

Another cruise-goer agreed, saying: "Did this yesterday as we came into Alaska... saw the sunrise over the Tongass National Forest and the mountains. So peaceful and quiet and beautiful. Just me, the view… and the nice lady cleaning the windows lol."
A third said it's a great time to really take in your surroundings without the noise of a sound system, pool area, or general chitter chatter. They wrote: "It's really fun to experience the ship when there's hardly anyone around and your senses aren't being assaulted by music and other live entertainment everywhere. It's just peace and quiet on this giant floating city with panoramic views."
