A Ryanair plane destined to take Brits to sunny Benidorm was grounded elsewhere in Spain over a specific rule that was allegedly broken, with a passenger ejected from the flight.

There's plenty of rules when it comes to flying to Spain, including Benidorm and Costa Blanca specific rules that could land you with a fine up to £1,000.

Other Spanish laws come with fines of up to €30,000 (£25,667) if you break them, so make sure you pay attention before travelling.

Also, it helps if you don't act like a berk (just saying).

The Ryanair flight in question left Manchester Airport last Friday (5 April) with a destination of Alicante on the cards, with many of those on board heading to nearby Benidorm for some fun in the sun.

But it was quickly grounded before it arrived on the Costa Blanca and all allegedly because of an issue relating to specific travel rules that you really shouldn't break.

Footage of the incident was broadcast on TikTok, which showed Spanish police boarding the plane after it made an emergency landing in Barcelona.

Police cars and a riot van were seen on the runway by those on the plane.

With shouts of 'get them off' being heard around the plane, two men were escorted off of the aircraft by the police as other passengers laughed.

When asked what they'd done, another passenger said: "All they've done is drink a bottle of Disaronno."

Another woman responded saying: "Give over, is that all they've done?"

A third said: "This is ridiculous. A flight to Alicante stopped in Barcelona because someone drank a bottle of Disaronno.

"Lovely. How many police cars outside? Two and a riot van? For two lads who drank a bottle of Disaronno."

It might not seem like a massive breaking of the rules, but drinking alcohol purchased from duty free is actually illegal.

Travel rules state that any booze bought from duty free must remain in its sealed bag until you arrive in your destination of choice.

The bags you're given the alcohol in even say on them 'do not open alcohol purchases until your final destination', meaning ignorance really isn't a last minute excuse.

A spokesperson from Ryanair said: "This flight from Manchester to Alicante (5 April) diverted to Barcelona due a disruptive passenger onboard.

"The passenger was removed, and this flight continued to Alicante."

The video has been viewed more than two million times on TikTok.

Some made light of it, with one saying: "As a punishment I would’ve let them actually get to Benidorm."

Another said: "They were told few times, warned number of times then there is emergency landing. Follow the rules."
