Parents spend a lot of time deliberating on what to call their kids.
And while most children even grow into their names, sometimes parents get it wrong and need to reverse course.
Amy Schumer is one of those people.

When the comedian and her husband, Chris Fischer, announced the birth of their baby in May 2019, they had a meaningful name to go along with his arrival.
Their son was named Gene Attell Fischer, with his middle name a tribute to their friend, comedian David Attell.
While there's much to be said for good intentions, they may have been better off going with David.

The comedian soon backtracked after realising that her son's first and middle names sounded rather unfortunate next to each other.
Speaking on her podcast 3 Girls, 1 Keith back in April 2020, Schumer said: "Do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name, is officially changed?
"It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son 'genital'."

On the podcast, Schumer stars alongside co-hosts Rachel Feinstein, Bridget Everett, and Keith Robinson and the guest for the episode was actress Claudia O'Doherty - who appeared in Trainwreck with Schumer.
O'Doherty went on to explain: "My mum pointed that out to me, actually. My mum was like, 'Amy's called her son genital,' and she was right."
But it turns out everything really does happen for a reason because she discovered that by changing Gene's middle name to David, she actually ended up killing two birds with one stone.

By selecting David, the parents were still honouring Dave Attell (well, his Sunday name at least) and David is also Schumer's father's middle name. What are the chances, eh? It's also my uncle's first name so we could even throw him into the mix if we wanted, right?
Jokes aside, it's refreshing to see someone in the limelight airing these silly things that some parents might feel really bad about.
In the years since Gene was born, Schumer has relished being a mum.
In November last year, the comedian was faced with the 'hardest' week of her life, when Gene was hospitalised with Respiratory syncytial virus while she was rehearsing for Saturday Night Live.

Thankfully, Gene recovered from his bout of illness and the crew at SNL were accommodating to Schumer in allowing her to spend time with her son during the week.
