A diver that got too close to a Great White Shark in the open ocean almost
paid the price.
In footage that is sure to send anyone with a fear of sharks into a spiral, an incredibly brave (some would say slightly foolish) diver got into a see-through cage to get as close as possible to one of the deadliest sea creatures known to man.

In footage that has recently gone viral on TikTok, a diver can be seen spotting the predator, before climbing into a see-through cage to get as close as possible to it.
It's what might be the most obvious 'don't try this at home' video ever made, and though the social media clip is over four minutes long, it manages to keep you on the edge of your seat for the entirety of its run time.
We've all heard about shark attacks enough in our time, and there have occurrences where great whites literally rip swimmers' or surfers' legs off, but it hasn't seemed to stop these sea explorers.

Shark diver Jimi Partington wanted to get as close to the great white as he could, while filming a dangerous research stunt for Discovery documentary Great White Open Ocean.

The documentary was released in 2022, which followed the diver's journey back into the open water after a near death experience in 2020, but it led to another life-threatening situation.

He was testing if great whites were more aggressive in the ocean, testing his luck by lying in a plexiglass box.
In the clip, he can be heard saying: "I’ve already had two bumps now that have been pretty deliberate,
"They look like they’re getting a little bit more fired up."
They then charged at his cage, clamping down on the glass and rendering him, what is known as 'there for the taking'.

Panicked, Partington managed to scramble away onto what remained of the cage and eventually swam frantically back to the boat.
TikTok users couldn't believe what they were seeing, as they took to the comments section to share their shock.
One user said: "There were some pretty clear signs that shark was gonna attack. He should’ve exited after the first sign which was a test bump against the container."

Another commented: "why was everyone so shocked that the shark sharked! like dude you in his home inside a takeaway box"
A third shared: "That cage looks thinner than the tempered glass screen protector on my phone"
A different user posted: "'I’ve already had 2 deliberate bumps' sir that should have been your sign to GO!"
