A baby was found at the roadside on New Year's Eve after it was abandoned in a cardboard box with a note asking for help.
The newborn was discovered at around 2pm in Fairbanks, Alaska, by a woman called Roxy Lane who shared the letter on social media.
The letter reads: "Please help me!!! I was born today on December 31 2021 6am.
"I was born 12 weeks premature. My mom was 28 weeks when she had me. My parents and grandparents don't have food or money to raise me.
"They NEVER wanted to do this to me."
It then goes on to add: "My mom is so sad to do this. Please take me and find me a LOVING FAMILY.
"My parents are begging whoever finds me. My name is Teshawn."
When Roxy shared the information she had on Facebook, she urged people not to judge and said: "She might be in a desperate situation, feeling abandoned herself," adding: "We don't know, there could be a whole backstory here behind closed doors."
She also urged anyone that may know the mother of the child to 'check on her', as she doubts the family will be able to afford to take her to hospital and she may be in need of medical attention herself.
She also took the opportunity to outline the Safe Haven Law which states that parents may not be prosecuted for the safe surrender of their children.
Roxy wrote: "There is always a safer, humane choice to surrender a baby and you will not get in trouble or even have to answer any difficult questions. Take the baby to a fire station, or church, or hospital and they will take care of them."
An alert from the Alaska State Troopers reads: "On 12/31/21 at about 1400 hours, AST in Fairbanks received a report of a newborn child that was found abandoned in a cardboard box at the intersection of Dolphin Way and Chena Point Avenue.
"The child was alive and seemed to have been abandoned at the location recently. There was a note left with the child indicating the parent could not take care it.
"The child was transported by EMS to a local hospital and was found to be in good health. Alaska State Troopers are asking that anyone who may have information about this child, contact AST in Fairbanks by calling 907-451-5100 or submit a tip anonymously through the AKTips smartphone app."
