There are a few key cultural differences between the United States and the rest of the world.
One distinction the world is discovering comes in the form of how Americans make their tea.
One British man found this out the hard way after his girlfriend and two-time Dancing On Ice champion Alex Murphy decided to show him how to whip up a brew the 'American' way.
Murphy started by placing a tea bag into the mug, filling the glass with tap water, pouring over a significant amount of milk, and then placed the mug in the microwave.

Yes, the microwave. No kettle to be found in this method.
Alex’s boyfriend's reaction is hilarious, and in all honestly not completely out of hand.
Immediately knowing something is up he says: “What is that? That is disgusting.
“I don’t mean to be rude. I feel like I’m being really rude, but that is not a cup of tea.”

When Alex lets him know she did indeed put the cup in the microwave, he responds in the most typical of British fashions.
“You’re having a laugh," he said.
He proceeds to hurl the mug onto the floor in the most savage of manners, which may have been a step too far, however, not quite unexpected from a Brit where a cup of tea is a cornerstone of their way of life.

There is nothing more culturally significant and heartwarming than boiling the kettle before fixing up a cup of tea. It’s an essential factor to the soul-fulfilling experience of making tea before drinking the delicious beverage.
To skip the step would be to go against everything that makes making a tea great.
The comments are just as ruthless.

“That was an appropriate response. The real red flag is how you made that tea,” one user said.
Another added: “No way he should leave you at once.”
While one American actually chimed in on the debate saying: “That’s not even the American way that’s just wrong, so very very wrong.”
This isn’t even the first time the tea making argument has popped up on TikTok.
Back in February, a TikTok user shared their routine on how to make British tea.

They started by pouring milk into a glass kettle, then added a spoonful of sugar, a teabag, and some bottled water.
They then proceeded to turn on their 'electric British kettle', and boil a lot 'until creamy'. And of course, they poured in another spoonful of sugar.
The comments followed in a similar vein, with one writing: "British here. I’m traumatised…where is my therapist… just no lol."
Sort it out America.
