Bull riding is a popular American sport that sees a rider mount a bucking bull and attempting to stay put while the animal tries to throw them off.
On 12 February, Cody was performing at the Bell County Expo Centre in Texas when the bull almost instantly sent him flying to the floor.
The footage shows the lad lying stunned while the bull charges past two other bullfighters and makes its way back towards him.
But in a split-second decision, Hook’s father, Lanis Hook, sprints to his son and jumps on top of him, shielding him from the raging bull.

The frightening footage shows the bull pushing its horns to the ground towards the father and son who remain embraced on the floor.
Thankfully, the bull - named Twizler - left the pair unscathed for the most part, as a witness told the New York Post: “Both of them walked away with just scratches.”
They described the situation as ‘not something you’re going to see every day’, and noted ‘not everyone would have gone in there’ in tribute to Cody’s dad.

Clearly counting his lucky stars, the 18-year-old posted the video on Instagram with the caption: “Not one to post falling off, but big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx could’ve been a hella lot worse. #blessed.”
Those who had come across the touching footage shared their thoughts with the bull rider, as one said: “That’s a hell of a Dad you got!”
Another added: “My kind of dad.”

A third simply wrote: “A father willing to lay down his life for his son.”
Earlier this week, TikTok users were left horrified after footage of a tourist picking up one of the world’s most dangerous creatures went viral.
The video, posted by TikTok user @kataphillah, shows them handling a blue-ringed octopus – one of the deadliest organisms living on the planet.
Don’t be fooled by its size, as this frightening creature contains enough venom to kill up to 26 humans in just minutes.
