Doctor explains all risks of ‘single worst thing you can do to your body’ that damages ‘nearly every organ’

He urges anyone who does it to stop

A doctor has explained all the risks associated with a habit that many of us still do daily.

These days, people on social media in particular seem desperate to follow the advice of influencers rather than health professionals, and you've probably seen the folks who eat nothing but meat and eggs on your timelines.

We've also seen an epidemic of people using weight loss drugs that often aren't needed, leading to some potentially grim side effects, while others are also taking on ridiculous sporting challenges, which can often have a disastrous impact on the body.

But while popular trends such as fasting and intense exercise regimes can have some health benefits if they're done properly, Dr Jeremy London has now explained why one common habit has no benefits whatsoever.

Even the odd glass of red wine might be good for antioxidants, so it's definitely not alcohol. Instead, he believes smoking is the worst thing you can do to the human body. Anything a doctor considers more harmful than putting Lego pieces up your bum is undoubtedly a bad idea.

In a recent YouTube video, the doctor explained: "Top three preventable risk factors for all-cause mortality. Smoking, poor diet, and high blood pressure. Now, let's start with the worst offender, smoking.

"It is without question the single worst thing you can do for your body. It damages nearly every organ system, increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and is responsible for the vast majority of lung cancer deaths.

"Roughly one in five deaths are linked to tobacco use. If you smoke, think long and hard about quitting. It's the most powerful step you can take for your health."

Although the introduction of vapes was, and still can be, a viable alternative to smoking for those who might be addicted to tobacco, the excessive use, particularly among the younger generation who might have never even smoked, has led to even more health issues.

Even just one cigarette can take 20 minutes off your life, according to scientific studies, so it's difficult to see any benefits whatsoever, especially if you're on the bright pink watermelon-flavoured vapes.

Simulations have also revealed the impact that smoking or vaping can have if you do it for just a month of your life, and the damage it can do to your lungs, in particular, can be huge.

Dr London went on to explain why a poor diet and high blood pressure are two other things that can easily send you to an early grave.

He added: "Diets low in fruits and vegetables, high in trans fats, and ultraprocessed foods contribute to the same proportion of deaths as smoking, mainly from cardiovascular disease. "Now, food is information for your body. Design a nutritional plan that works for you and be thoughtful about what you put in your mouth.

"And finally, high blood pressure, the silent killer. It affects one in two Americans, and most have no idea. Chronic elevation of the systolic blood pressure, the top number, damages the heart, brain, and kidneys.

"The good news is it's highly modifiable through lifestyle, diet, stress management, and medication when necessary. Be proactive, not reactive."
