A shift, a ride, a shag…we all know what I’m talking about! While the Irish love to come up with all sorts of lingo for sex, the stereotype remains that Irish people aren’t the most comfortable when it comes to talking about sex. Maybe it’s the shockingly inadequate sex education we got in school or that really weird need for us to be polite all the time!

For sure a bit of modesty is needed in a job interview or at a funeral, but there are so many benefits to being empowered to express ourselves and fight the stigmas which surround sex and the freedom of self-expression.

Durex is now on a mission to liberate better sex in Ireland by helping to create conversations, break taboos & normalise talk around sex. The world’s no.1 condom brand has launched a new campaign called ‘Your Sex/Your Way,’ to do just that!

#YourSexYourWay
#YourSexYourWay

In their attempt to better understand sex culture in Ireland, Durex has uncovered some pretty wild and even worrying statistics. They found that 41% of young adults are too embarrassed to talk about their sexual likes and dislikes with their partner while a shocking 66% of people are unsatisfied with their sex lives. (Ah lads!)

While these numbers are pretty startling, Ireland’s sex culture and education certainly don’t help things. In their research, Durex found that young people were reporting that the sex education offered to them only covered biological aspects of sex and nothing about sexual feelings, relationships or emotions.

Meanwhile, 47% of LGBTQ+ people are not open about being LGBTQ+ in Ireland while 59% of them avoid often or always holding hands with their same-sex partner.

Durex believes to break down the stigma and taboo associated with sex, people need to be able to talk more openly about sex and sexual pleasure which is the first step to empowering people to be their true sexual selves.

With the ‘Your Sex/Your Way’ campaign, Durex is leading the charge when it comes to changing attitudes to sex in Ireland and hopefully can help reverse some of the concerning statistics they have uncovered.

The campaign was launched last month in Opium nightclub in Dublin and LADbible Ireland was fortunate enough to be in attendance. While the statistics suggest Irish people are pretty shy when it comes to talking about sex, you wouldn’t tell that from the launch night…we had a go at a game called ‘penis ring toss’...I’ll leave that one to your imagination!

Also, there was so much entertainment on the night with DJs from the nightclub Mother, a Cabaret of comedy and a performance from Ping Pong Disco! Durex invited the sex and intimacy specialist and newest Durex brand ambassador Grace Alice Ó Sé for a talk along with Marcus O’Laoire Rob Kenny, Paddy Smyth, Gráinne Binns. The venue was packed out on the evening with a boat load of different influencers popping down to see the fun unfold including Ben Williams, James Doyle, Anna Clifford, King Ye and Meg Reilly.

The launch night was just the beginning of the campaign in which Durex hopes to fight against sexual shame and stigma and fight for freedom of self-expression. Let’s be honest, when it comes to sex, Durex knows a thing or two about it and the company has been in existence for nearly a century. Now they want to help Ireland to open its minds to the possibilities and benefits of normalising conversations about sex and help us all become our true sexual selves.
