George Best’s ex-wife claims new footage proves the ghost of the former Manchester United and Northern Ireland footballer has visited her house. You can judge for yourself by watching the video below:
The mercurial playmaker died back in 2005, but his former spouse Alex claims that Best has been visiting her Surrey home more recently than that, and says that other strange phenomena have been happening at her 200-year-old house, the Mirror reports.
Things have been disappearing and moving around, as well as lights mysteriously turning themselves on and off, and the TV coming on without any prompting.
Alex Best says that the first spooky happening took place on the day that her ex-husband was buried on 3 December 2005, after he died at the age of only 59.
Alex said: “I’m convinced spirits have come to visit my 200-year-old house.
“And now I think George could have been one of them.”
She explained: “On the day of George’s funeral I was staying at a hotel in Belfast.
“I remember it was an early start that day and obviously it was very emotional.
“Just as I was leaving through the hotel door the shower turned on full blast. On its own.”
As for the happenings in her own home, Alex seems determined to get to the bottom of things, enlisting the help of the TV haunting experts from Celebrity Help! My House is Haunted.
On the show, there’s a creepy moment caught on camera during which a book seemed to move on its own in the house.
Upon closer inspection from investigator Barri Ghai, it turned out to be a biography of none other than Georgie Best.
Alex said: “I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
“I’ve got so many books on that bookshelf. I’ve got books on films, antiques, all different autobiographies and yet the book that shot out was George’s.
“That moment made me really think he could have been one of the spirits.”
Ghai asked her: “Are you surprised that George made an entrance, an appearance, of that nature?”
Alex responded: “No. Not at all. Cheeky monkey.”
“Something like that would be typical George.
“Before that point I’d thought the spirit had just been a child because it was mischievous and playful, but George was mischievous as well.
“He was always playing around and trying to make people laugh.”
As for the other experiences in her house, Alex explained: “Things will disappear when I’m looking for them and then they’ll suddenly turn up months and months later in a really obvious place like the middle of the floor.
“I woke up a few years ago to find a huge, heavy sideboard dragged into the middle of the room.
“It’s made from railway sleepers and it’s so heavy that every time I’ve ever moved house the removal men have cursed me, yet here it was dragged from the side to the centre of the room, with carpet indentations left on the floor where it had been.
“I had to call my dad to help me drag it back.”
Even spookier, on the show they investigated the history of the cottage, and found that another person called George Best lived in the area around 1902, and may even have inhabited the cottage.
