Despite being the world's richest man, Elon Musk apparently doesn’t enjoy the finer things in life.
His on again, off again partner Grimes has revealed to Vanity Fair that the tech billionaire is very much a minimalist man.
"Bro does not live like a billionaire...Bro lives at times below the poverty line,” the Canadian singer explained to the news outlet.

"To the point where I was like, 'Can we not live in a very insecure $40,000 house? Where the neighbors, like, film us, and there's no security, and I'm eating peanut butter for eight days in a row?'"
She added that Musk ‘wouldn’t even get a new mattress’ because he didn't want to splash out.
The Tesla founder has massively downsized his life over the past few years by selling off his lavish assets and is now living in a small home.

In July last, Musk tweeted: “My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though.
“Only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area. If I sold it, the house would see less use, unless bought by a big family, which might happen some day.”
But with a net worth of more than $220 billion, what the hell is Musk spending all his wealth on, you might ask?

Well, Grimes revealed that the father of their two children is heavily investing in his various business ventures.
"People are like, 'He's hoarding money!' No, he's spending everything on [research and development]," she said to Vanity Fair.
She said Musk's project to get humans on Mars is obviously taking up a huge sum of cash, but she believes the 'expensive' mission is 'for the benefit of humanity'.
"Bro might say a lot of stupid s**t, but he does the right thing," she added.

Musk and Grimes recently revealed that they had welcomed another child onto the planet.
They've agreed to name the baby girl Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.
According to Vanity Fair, the name comes from the supercomputing term 'exaFLOPS', which is the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second.

Dark refers to 'the unknown', which Grimes went on to explain that 'people fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe'.
The mother of two also noted that the name choice also refers to her favourite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel, who she explained “chooses to abdicate the ring”.
The pair will otherwise, call their daughter by 'Y' for short, and want to share 'at least three or four' children together one day, according to the cover story.
