Top doctor reveals the two ‘worst’ food and drinks that she wouldn’t ever let her children eat

Dr Federica Amati and Paul Sculfor's two daughters aren't allowed to consume two popular products

This doctor clearly doesn't fear her kids having an almighty meltdown in the middle of a supermarket, as she has revealed that she refuses to let her two youngsters consume two popular products.

There's no room for negotiation when it comes to Dr Federica Amati's weekly shop, as the mother-of-two explains that she is 'very black and white' about what her children can fuel their bodies with.

The nutritionist, 37, is pretty big on that whole 'health is wealth' thing and she believes that looking after the microbes in our guts is the key to maintaining our wellbeing.

She's even released an informative book about it all in April this year, titled Every Body Should Know This: The Science of Eating for a Lifetime of Health, in the hopes of inspiring others to overhaul their diet.

The mum - who is a medical scientist and Head Nutritionist for health app ZOE - is married to 90s model Paul Sculfor and the pair share two daughters, aged six and four.

She explained that their household enjoys a rich and varied diet and generally, she doesn't see the reason to 'completely exclude [certain] foods forever'...apart from these two items.

Speaking to The Times, Dr Amati revealed the products which she wouldn't be caught dead putting in her shopping trolley.

"I don’t see any benefit to drinking a cola at any point in life," she said.

"That’s something that I’m very black and white about. I don’t see any reason for even trying them.

"Fizzy drinks are the worst ultra-processed food that exist. Full of artificial additives, full of sugar.

"It’s insane how bad they are."

As well as echoing the long-running warnings of dentists and doctors about soft drinks, Dr Amati went on to explain that there is another item which is banned in her home that a lot of parents tend to presume is healthy.

"Children’s yoghurts have some of the highest sugar content in the food industry," she said.

Although she's conscious of the choices she makes surrounding her children's diet, her goal is to ensure that her girls have a 'good relationship with food'.

"I grew up in an Italian household," the Rome-born nutrition guru continued. "I’ve always thought of food as a pleasure.

"There’s no ‘good food’ or ‘bad food’. It’s all part of the food culture."

She explained she's no Nara Smith and doesn't 'home-make' everything, but added: "What I do have is an environment in my home where the majority of the food is whole food."

But even the experts allow themselves a treat every now and again, Dr Amati admits.

Take her husband, for example, who is often dubbed the 'original supermodel' and has dated a string of high-profile stars such as Lisa Snowdon, Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz before getting hitched to the nutritionist in 2016.

Dr Amati said her partner 'loves to eats food that makes him feel good', and sometimes, this includes his two guilty pleasures.

She explained: "He just has these quirks, like brown sauce and marmalade and things that are just for him in the house. He’s not drowning every meal in brown sauce, but he will have it on occasion.

"There’s no reason to completely exclude foods for ever."

Except fizzy drinks and children's yoghurts, that is!
