Sexual health doctor explains why Gen Z is really having less sex

That's one reason for it

Studies all seem to show that Gen Z are less intimate than previous generations and a sexual health doctor has given a potential explanation as to why.

Ever since the pandemic, it seems as if Gen Z in particular are far less social, which is perhaps understandable given the reliance on screens rather than social connections from such a young age.

Dating certainly isn't as easy as it used to be either, given that apps are the go-to for many, where a simple swipe of a hand is enough to make a permanent decision on a potential partner.

While older generations are embracing sex more than ever, perhaps oversharing with details of their often outlandish sex lives on podcasts and TV shows, there's no doubt that a large percentage of Gen Z folks are struggling when it comes to the bedroom.

Now, a cynic might suggest that it's because Gen Z are also drinking less, doing fewer drugs and going out far less but the sexual health doctor has some other ideas.

Speaking to LADbible, Dr Mark Perera said: "Multiple societal studies are showing that Gen Z are having less sex and it's hard to put our finger on why. A lot of it is to do with stress, economic stress, housing stress. Being able to have that environment to have sex and enjoy it. But there's also an element of understanding what you need. It's not going with the common trends. It's deciding: 'Am I ready for sex?' 'Do I want to have sex?' 'Do I have a really high libido right now?' It's about understanding themselves a bit better, that's what I'd like to believe."

So, perhaps Gen Z people's pain in the bedroom is down to general depression about the state of the world and the complete lack of financial opportunities, which is fair enough to be honest.

However, there are plenty of other factors that we also need to consider, and certainly in the case of young men, bad influences can often mean they've got little chance when it comes to the opposite sex, because nobody is going to want to sleep with an incel whose role model is Andrew Tate.

It isn't only those of a certain age that are struggling to have sex, as studies suggest that our average numbers also drop when we get married, which sadly does little to dispel the jokes that men have been making for centuries.

It's important to remember however that the quantity of your sex doesn't really matter, and that the quality is what you should be focusing on.

But if you are a Gen Z'er who is struggling, maybe get out there and meet someone in real life, rather than relying on the advice of people online. Although I suppose I also fall into that bracket, so you can do whatever you want.
